HUD ManiaX Hits # 2 In The Japanese App Store, On Sale In US Now
At first glance HUD ManiaX looks like your basic GPS app, but considering the high cost of today's electronic mapping devices, 99 cents is a surprising price. It comes equipped with the expected amenities, including in-car optimized display and voice recognition, which some current systems fail to offer. It is currently missing a route finder but that feature is in development for future release. Basically, if you want all your maps to make it look like you're behind the wheel (wing?) of a jet fighter, this app may be for you. A bit of Engrish from the webpage:

Fighter Jet Heads-Up Display on your iPhone!
This awesome app, HUD ManiaX, created by a former Japan Air Self-Defense Force serviceman, makes full use of the iPhone's accelerometer to produce a realistic HUD. It's optimized as an in-car display with voice response to command input. Enhance your driving experience!
User-Friendly GPS Navigation Using Google Maps
HUD ManiaX displays a compass at the top of the screen to indicate your direction (although the 3G's hardware doesn't include a compass). Who needs to buy an overpriced GPS navigation system when you've got a map giving you what you want by keeping you up-to-date on your direction?! You can also adjust the map's focal point to see what's farther up ahead.
