Ivy The Kiwi Flying To US Wii And DS This Summer

Sonic creator Yuji Naka seems to really have a thing for flightless birds. His last game, Let's Tap, was announced with the claim that even penguins could play it. Then, back in February, our own PixelPoet brought us news that his studio, Prope, was at the helm of the adorable Wii and DS platformer Ivy the Kiwi? Fear not, fellow fans of flightless fowl, for the game has now been confirmed for US release courtesy of XSeed Games.
In what looks to be a style of gameplay similar to Kirby Canvas Curse, players will draw vines for Ivy to run across, and even pull back vines to launch Ivy like a slingshot to new parts of the level. If the game's gorgeous art style hasn't already won you over, perhaps its heartfelt story will.
Players of all ages are instantly drawn to the plight of Ivy, introduced to the charming bird through an unfolding storybook style, first seen as her orange head and beak break out of her shell and cries for her mother. Receiving no response, Ivy sets off through a dreamy forest, meeting many birds but none who share her resemblance. As she wanders, she stumbles upon a single glowing red feather and the first clue of her mother's whereabouts.
Ivy the Kiwi? is set to hit US shores in "summer 2010," though the exact date in summer is as much a mystery as the question mark at the end of the title. Despite the game's downloadable roots in Japan, originally released for Windows phone followed by DSiWare and WiiWare, there is no mention of any digital version for the US. This could indicate Ivy receiving a retail release. We'll keep you updated on how and when you'll be able to get your hands on Ivy the Kiwi for yourself, but in the mean time why not check out some gorgeous kiwi screenshots in the gallery below.
