Video: Lara Croft And Guardian of Light

Hmm, this will probably get some folks up in arms. After years of promising that the series is going back to its roots, the folks behind Tomb Raider seem to be going in an entirely new direction. Maybe that's why they dropped the Tomb Raider name entirely. Game Boy gave us some impressions way back at GDC, but here you can see it in motion for yourself. Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is an isometric-style, downloadable title for PC (via Steam), XBLA, and PSN, and looks a bit like Diablo meets Uncharted. Not only that, the game has a full co-op mode, which is new and should work really well with the type of game this is. Although co-op platforming can be a little tricky, New Super Mario Bros Wii aside. There are also giant spiders. Ugh.

What do you think? Is this a good thing for the series? Or will you be waiting for them to bring back the old school tomb raiding before you get excited about Lara Croft again?

It looks great! I'm especially excited for the co-op, even if the second character is a little odd.

Don't like the new direction this franchise is going but I'm gonna try it. Give it the benefit of the doubt.

I like it although I read the next Tomb Raider is still under development. So I'm cool with it as long as this doesn't become the format for future Tomb Raiding games.

I'll give it a shot. But I definitely don't like the direction this game went and the style, and the type of enemies. Hopefully it's just something to keep fans busy until they come out with a proper Lara Croft adventure.

I think it looks fantastic, though I was never a big fan of the old games (minus whichever one it was that I used to lure the butler into the freezer and lock him in). I'm thinking it'll be really good but for those who loved the original games it really just won't be the same.

Too far away to see her boobs. I don't think this game will be popular.

If I wanted Diablo, I'd fire up my old Pentium 2 PC.

Will someone at Naughty Dog please please please buy this franchise and merge it with Uncharted? Before they make it into a side scroller?

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
