Video: The Epic Half-Hour Mario Medley
It seems like every gamer, young or old school, hardcore or casual, knows the Mario theme music. It's one of those iconic videogame tunes. And even when listening to songs from different Mario games, whether it an RPG or a racing game or Mario blasting through space, it's always unmistakably Mario. It's almost as if the songs could be put together into one big cohesive song, and that's exactly what the video above (and parts 2 and 3 after the break) try to do. It's not every Mario song from every Mario game, that would take forever, but it is half an hour (27 minutes really) of classic Mario played on the piano.
If you frequent conventions then you may already be familiar with Andrew Estrada and his band, The Spoony Bards. I've been a fan of Andrew ever since way back once upon a time when I worked with him at a certain videogame retailer and found out he does the most beautiful rendition of Gerudo Valley I have ever heard. He has a love of videogames only rivaled by a love of teaching himself to play videogame songs on the piano without sheet music. Over the years he's been working on his Mario medley, adding songs and rearranging the order as new Mario games are released. I think it was around 16 minutes long when I first heard it five or six years ago, so it's likely that even at nearly half an hour long it isn't complete. Especially with the release of Super Mario Galaxy 2 right around the corner.

I got a chance to hangout with the Spoony Bards at the hotel after Tsubasacon two years ago. They were fun guys. And had a strange foreign pachinko game on their Wii.
LOVE the Spoony Bards!!! I would watch them at ACen every single year (with the exception of last weekend), and I played in a community theater pit once with their drummer Jon and his amazing Zendrum! They were so gracious with their fans, and amazingly talented to boot. I even have one of their shirts! :)
In vein to this, I'm a huge fan of Martin Leung, who now tours with Video Games Live. Some people dislike his frantic pacing, but I find it to be quite enjoyable.
