Wii Party - Nintendo's Next "Wii Something" Title

As odd as it may sound, I've always enjoyed seeing the candid side of the game industry that is investor meetings. They're a great source of insight for how a company operates, and occasionally you might just learn something about the company's upcoming development plans. Such is the case with the latest financial meeting from Nintendo, where Satoru Iwata made my new favorite Nintendo quote by revealing Nintendo's next "Wii something" title: Wii Party.
Of course, the downside of an investor meeting reveal is that gameplay details are scarce. What we do know is that Miis will, of course, be front and center in the title's selection of party minigames. There will be minigames designed for four players, two players, as well as a "Living Party" mode that will provide "unique game play only available with the Wii Remote." Yeah, those are the kinds of specifics investors get.
Based on screen shots, it looks like Wii Party will have a play style somewhat similar to the Mario Party games, with the game board in this case being a globe of the world. Airports and seaports look to help travel around the board faster, while green, red, and blue spaces hold minigames, shops, and other surprises. What role the shops will play is a mystery, but shopping cart icons at least suggest their presence.
Wii Party is set to release sometime during Nintendo's current fiscal year, which ends March 31, 2011. If Nintendo is planning this to be a marquee title for the Wii, expect many more details about the game to emerge from next month's E3 conference.
