Wootini's Weekly Whenever Wii Fit Update:
One Two Years Later

Wow. I can't believe that it was two years ago (and a couple days sorry, this technically should've been on Tuesday, but whatever...) that I picked up my pre-ordered copy of Wii Fit at the Nintendo World Store in Rockefeller Center and started my weekly updates. As I said at the time, I wasn't really expecting Wii Fit to work, and I figured after a month or so with no weight loss, I'd declare it a sham and stick the Balance Board into a closet never to be seen again.
Imagine my surprise as I started to notice that regular playing of Wii Fit was starting to take off some weight. So I figured that adjusting my eating habits might help accelerate that process. I cut back on the sweets and soda and tried to eat smaller portions of everything in general. And lo and behold, three months later, I'd already dropped 25 pounds! At the urging of my friend, I switched from running in place in my living room with the game to buying a proper pair of sneakers and running outdoors for longer and longer distances. This made me drop another 15 pounds that actually brought me down to what the BMI says is my ideal weight of 145 pounds. Which I seriously haven't weighed since probably high school. Sure, the running went to my head and I decided to run the New York City Half Marathon last August, which was an awesome experience (I finished in under two hours, my goal), but also messed up my knees and sent me to physical therapy. I'm back in shape and running again, and used Wii Fit more during the interim to make sure I didn't put back on too much weight. In fact, weighing in on the Balance Board every single morning goes a long way towards keeping me honest.
And now, two years later, I have continued to maintain my weight of about 145 pounds, give or take a few on either side. And while I do run (which is great cardio), also continue to use the Wii Fit every single day. Mostly just to weigh in and log my progress, but I do also sometimes do the boxing or Hula Hoop cardio exercises and I use the push-up/side plank to keep my arms from looking too scrawny! I would once again like to thank Nintendo for releasing such a life-changing product (at least for me!), and Miyamoto for conceiving of such a radical game. Like they always say on the infomercials, results are not typical, but I love telling people that I lost the weight because of Wii Fit. I always add that I took up running, just to be honest, but I seriously do credit Wii Fit for launching my weight loss and making me more conscious of my health, diet and posture.
(Now I just wish that I'd picked a medium for my pre-order bonus T-shirt so I could work into fitting into it one day... or at least a large to split the difference! I never wear this shirt because I feel like I'm swimming in it!)

WHAO! Congrats dude! Thats really awesome!
But I really think you, yourself contributed to your weight loss and wii-fit was just a scale really. It's really inspiring to hear though.
I hope to lose that much eventually. I will eventually.
Wow!
Ow oww!
Congratulations, I followed your updates and started down a similar path using wii fit as a base.
Great you got the results you wanted, hope you manage to keep it up!
WoW! is that the same person :D
Congrats! You certainly work hard enough for it :)
With Animal Crossing and Wii Fit, I can tell that you have some SERIOUS FREAKING dedication.
Kudos, mate. Kudos.
That almost looks like two different people holding a Wii board. I very impressed and happy for you.
What a great achievement, congrats!
I have to say, though, that you look happier in the "before"-picture. ;P
Dayum, gurl! I am all kinds of jealous of your progress!
Congrats.
I can sympathise having lost tons of weight over the last couple of years, due to a combination of dieting, excercise and posture correction.
No Wii Fit for me.
I have a question for you though. How are you finding the skin elasticity?
Even though I've lost about 50 kilos in total, I've still got a fair bit of excess skin. It's supposed to tighten back up and I've defenitly noticed it does, but it goes quote slowly. I'm finding it rather annoying to be in fairly good shape, but still looking a little fat because of the extra skin.
Thanks for the support, you guys. Seriously, posting to the site kept me honest, but I also appreciated all the support I got in the comments section. Looking at the side-by-side, I was really surprised how different I look. I love that even my fingers got skinnier!
@Nexus: I didn't have any problem with extra skin, because I only lost 40 pounds. 50 kilos is over 100 pounds, so I'm really impressed with YOUR accomplishment! You put me to shame!
Big congrats on the dedication and weight loss! :D
Woot - looking good! I've loved watching this feature for awhile (activity by proxy?), and it's encouraging both as a gamer and writer to see someone with your dedication.
Thanks for sharing your journey and results with us!
Well done! You are the hotness! I take back all of the eye-rolling I have done when people told me they were going to use a Wii-Fit to lose weight.
I have ta say.... erm... umm... perhaps its the facial hair and the longish hair... but... ummm the before picture... mmmmmm.... eh?!
Hey wait, I thought Kotaku said that Wii Fit doesn't work? Didn't that even make the front page of Yahoo? What's going on here...?
:)
