Dragon Age: The Movie

Guess the licensed comic wasn't enough... BioWare, EA and FUNimation Entertainment are joining forces to create an anime feature adapted from the critically-acclaimed Dragon Age. FUNimation is responsible for bringing Dragon Ball to the US as well as a bunch of other classic anime series and movies.
"Anime is a great medium for us to continue the robust Dragon Age story," said Mark Darrah, Executive Producer for the Dragon Age franchise. "Partnering with FUNimation ensures that we are delivering the exceptional quality and entertainment value that our Dragon Age fans expect."
We are thrilled to be working with EA and BioWare on the production of the Dragon Age anime feature," said Gen Fukunaga, President and CEO of FUNimation. "We are going to be bringing the classic visual and storytelling techniques found in anime to create a film that will extend the narrative of the world BioWare has created."
Production of the Dragon Age anime is due to begin this year, with a projected release date in 2011 on home video. This will be the first of FUNimation's original anime productions, so we'll just have to wait and see how faithful to the game it is. Elf sex aside, I'm always wary of turning BioWare properties into movies simply because it takes away the personal choices that are a key aspect to the games. I suppose if it was a side story it wouldn't matter, but the press release does use the word "adaptation," so who knows...

I'd much prefer Yoshiaki Kawajiri to be involved in the production of that anime, or the folks at studio 4C or BONES. Otherwise, i suspect that cartoon is gonna be mediocre at best, which is less than what dragon age deserves.
As long as Orson Scott Card isn't involved. I'm a big fan of Dragon Age but I won't be buying the comics or anything else Card is involved with. My cash won't be funding his crusade against same-sex marriages...
