E3 '10: Video: Silent Hill

At Konami's press conference, they showed this trailer for the new Silent Hill. No subtitle (at least not yet), but they're calling it the eighth in the series. Odd, because by our count, even if you include Origins on the PSP, this is what, number seven? Anyway, Silent Hill is due in 2011 on the PS3 and Xbox 360. It looks like you're a hot prisoner who finds himself on the run and escaping into Silent Hill (so... not so much with the escaping, it would seem...) where things are dark and scary and exactly what you'd expect to find in Silent Hill. Unfortunately, it does look like the combat is back after the uniquely different Shattered Memories, but hopefully it will be better than it was in Homecoming. Oh, also, the music you'll hear is from new composer Dan Licht, who has worked on Dexter. It's no Akira Yamaoka, but it doesn't suck. As a big Silent Hill fan, I'll be keeping an ear out for any new information about it, and will pass it on to you!

silent hill, silent hill 2, silent hill 3, silent hill: the room, silent hill origins, silent hill homecoming and silent hill shattered memories.

This new game will make 8 :) And it technically could be 9 if you count the arcade game!

This looks quite good, I'm excited for it!!!

There's also that japanese only Silent Hill Graphic Play Novel on GBA, so....

I like Dexter's music, but... Come on. This is Yamaoka's baby. He didn't just do the music and sound for Silent Hill, he's been one of the producers for years.

I'm really happy to see another game of this kind of theme and genre (I really do eat them up), I just wish they would call it something else. This doesn't look like Silent Hill anymore. It'd be like someone other than J.K. Rowling writing a Harry Potter Book.

I wouldn't be surprised if Akira Yamaoaka was a consulting producer, but considering Dan Licht isn't a very Japanese name, does that mean this is another Western-made Silent Hill game? :*(

I'll miss Akira greatly, but at least the series is still around. I just wish it was less Western-influenced. Ever since the movie, the series (which has been pretty much been changing hands constantly) has been borrowing too much from the lackluster film, which, admittedly, it's one of the better video game to movie adaptations. But it wasn't the Silent Hill gamers adored.

I want them to go back to their roots, maybe even continue the canon plot of Heather, Alessa, Harry, Dahlia, and Travis (yes, I consider Origins canon) in a new way. I miss the hints to backstory in newspapers and magazines, that was lacking in Homecoming and Shattered Memories.

I'll be interested in hearing what else Licht has to offer. I've always loved the music from Dexter, so I'm glad he's on board.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
