Final Fantasy XIV Hitting PCs September 30... And The 22nd!

Square Enix announced today that the highly-anticipated MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV will release globally for Windows PC on September 30, 2010. But you know, if you don't want to wait, you could always shell out the extra cash for the Collector's Edition being released a week earlier on September 22!
The standard edition of the game will include a reward code for a pair of Garlond Goggles (speeds up skill progression), and 30 days of free gameplay. But the Collector's Edition will include a free Onion Helm (accelerates recovery after falling in battle), the ability to start playing online 8 days before the Standard Edition is released, a behind the scenes DVD, a FFXIV-branded security token for use with your regular password, a bound journal full of concept art, a voucher for a personalized Right of Passage Certificate, and a cover illustrated by Yoshitaka Amano. Oh, you also get the same game disc and manual and 30 days of free gameplay.
Pre-orders have already started for FFXIV, which retails for $49.99 for the regular edition, and $74.99 for the deluxe set. The monthly subscription fee will be $12.99, with each additional playable character costing $3.00 per period, with a maximum of 8 playable characters per account. Each additional retainer will cost $1 per period. Oh, and if you've registered your PS3 FFXIII Campaign Codes, you can now choose to apply that code to the PC version of FFXIV, which earns you a pair of Asuran Armguards that enhances the effectiveness of your equipped arm or tool. Yeah, what about the PS3 version? That's still scheduled for early March 2011, with a price to be determined.

Wow. Late September gives them about a month or two before Cataclysm's release. Their player-base at that point will be the ones who are truly sick and tired of WoW (and who'll probably go back to WoW after 3 months) and the hardcore FFXI players who Blizzard never really had in the first place.
I want FFXIV to succeed, but I see it being considered a dud once the numbers come out in Q1 2011.
Square-Enix just doesn't learn from their past mistakes. The problem with FFXI was the nearly year difference between Asia and Europe/Usa. It was a mess when I began to play for the first time and find all over the place hardcore players among completely lost newbies that just get their FFXI copy. And now Square-Enix is doing the same thing again, with 6 months of difference between PC and PS3. Players playing for these 6 months get annoyed by so many newbies asking for help/info constantly; newbies get frustrated because everyone has more info and more level than you (kind of like arriving too late to the party).
@ Pauwow
Did you read the article? PLayers who play on PC only have a few DAYS to play before the ps3 release.
Anyway.
I was new in FFXI and I did just fine.
Most of the higher lvl players are always willing to help the newer players if they just asked.
DrRush, the PS3 version comes out almost 6 months after the PC version . . . this really sucks for anyone who wanted to get the PS3 version of the game. :(
@ Pauwow omg oops im an idiot you were so right.
I was the one who didint read right.
Im sorry.
i just ordered my collectors edition through amazon.
so i'm looking forward to meeting and playing with the gaygamers! :D
FFXIV looks extremely good. They have taken everything they learned from FFXI in the past few years and applied it to make the game friendly for both soloers and those who choose to group.
As for the PC / PS3 thing, it's really not as big a deal as the JPN vs. USA/EURO issue that occurred. If you were waiting to play it on the PS3 I'm sorry for your loss, but maybe it's time to get a PC.
I'll probably play this both on PC and PS3.
@DrRush no problem, happens the same thing to me all the time ^_^
I really wanted to play the ps3 version because I just can't stay long time in front of the computer. Also I think it will be great seeing FFXIV on the HDTV. Maybe if you have your PC copy you can use the same account for your ps3 copy? That will be great. Well I guess I will have to play DC Universe Online while I'm waiting for the ps3 version of FFXIV.
