The Legend Of Neil Adds A Comedic Twist To Familiar Gameplay
Have you ever played a game and wondered what it would be like to actually embark on a world spanning adventure, wielding magic and fighting mythical creatures? Or fantasized about being a special ops soldier with special training and access to some of the world's most badass weaponry? The sad truth is that most of us given these situations would probably all but last five minutes before dying a horrible death. In the web series titled The Legend of Neil we find a gamer who has been sucked into his favorite game and he learns very quickly that being a gaming expert does not necessarily translate when placed into the living circumstances.
Charming, funny, and off times downright dirty, The Legend of Neil follows the adventures of a gamer named Neil who finds himself trapped in a living version of The Legend of Zelda after attempting a session of autoerotic asphyxiation with his NES controller. While Wootini covered Season 1 of the show, the second season finished up earlier this year, but both are worth watching if you missed any of it. Each episode is a few minutes in length and follows the game nearly religiously from start to finish, punctuating the adventure with humor and slapstick physical comedy. The Adventure of Neil takes liberties with the lore and monsters of the game with creative costumes and a very modern, sexual approach to the mechanics of the original game. Neil's life meter is tattooed to his arm and when he is on his last leg he must have sex with the neurotic fountain fairy, (played by geek princess Felicia Day) before she will heal his wounds.
Most enjoyable are the monsters from the game, like the rock spitting Octoroks who are represented by slender twinks wearing masks and the teleporting Wizzrobe who steals all of Neil's clothing.
Overall The Legend of Neil breathes new life into a legendary game and provides ample entertainment for the adult gamer. The website includes a full shop and forums for fans of the show. If you haven't already, I urge you to spend some time in this cleverly realized fantasy world.
