The UK takes gaming seriously as an upcoming powerhouse in its current economy. This is apparent with the presence of organizations like TIGA, the trade organization representing the entire UK games industry. With this level of commitment, it comes as no surprise that that the University of Bradford would be joining the ranks of the TIGA.

The University of Bradford offers two extensive courses focused on preparing their students for a career in the games industry, one being a Bachelor of Science course containing game design, theory and programming modules, and another one, a Bachelor of Arts course containing game design, theory and graphic arts modules.

Kaye Elling, Lecturer in Computer Games, said that many students have gone on to work at high profile companies including: Jagex, Blizzard, Revolution, Rockstar Games, Realtime Worlds, and Blitz Games Studios. Elling added that many students go on to start up their own indie companies that work with mobile and handheld games.

Elling also explained the university's reasons for joining the TIGA have a lot to do with taking the games industry seriously as a viable career option for their students stating:

We are proud to be part of such a distinguished industry body, and fully support TIGA's vision to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. Today's games students are tomorrow's games workforce and it is in all our interests to work together. We hope that with TIGA, we can do our part in bringing education and industry together to secure a bright future for the British games industry in this competitive global market.

TIGA CEO Dr. Richard Wilson is excited to be working with Bradford University to further game development education.

It is crucial for educators, TIGA and games businesses to work together to address training issues and ensure graduates are fully equipped with the necessary skills to work in the industry. We welcome The University of Bradford to TIGA and look forward to working with them.

The University of Bradford also offers a variety of courses in the Arts and Sciences.
