Video: Sir Bubbles To The Rescue

The last two bits of DLC for Bioshock 2 have been multiplayer oriented (should I be ashamed to admit I still haven't tried that aspect of the game?), meaning I have looked over them and then my eyes quickly shifted to whatever else I was playing. Therefore, when I received the press release for Protector Trials I grew a bit excited!

Then I read a bit further. While this is all single player content, and you do return to the shoes of a Big Daddy in order to protect your Little Sister, the focus, as the title gives away aptly, is those protection bits, where your Little Sister would be harvesting ADAM from a corpse and you would have to protect her from waves of Splicers. I did enjoy these parts of the game, but I am not entirely sure how I feel about them removed from their context within the narrative.

From this particular angle, we have been promised six new maps with three difficulty levels each. All the maps take place in locales visited during the game itself. There now exist new unlockable concept art and videos. Seven new achievements and trophies. All of it will be available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC August 3 at either $4.99 or 400 Microsoft points.

However, the part that really caught my eye?

"The team at 2K Marin has been working hard ever since the launch of BioShock 2 to develop ways for gamers to extend their time in the single-player world of Rapture," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. "I'm proud to announce the first of these experiences, the Protector Trials, which takes players back to some of their favorite places from the original game and features some of the biggest challenges that fans of this series have ever experienced. This is just the beginning. More single-player content is on the way that will deliver more of the intense action and story-driven gameplay that fans have been craving."

I do want more single player, but the exploration of Rapture--those story-driven gameplay moments--is what catches my eye. It's why I enjoy the game. The mechanics are fine, sure, but content just to expand my usage of it is not where this particular gamer's heart is set. Here's to hoping that future single player DLC has a bit more of that.

Yeah, after getting burned on the first DLC this will be the second one I won't be getting.
Like you said, I want Bioshock story-related content. Not some random challenges just for the hell of it.

I havent played the multiplayer either. At this point I would most get pwned by everyone. Looks fun though.

Fighting the horde was fun, having the Big Sister pop in right after I unloaded everything I had to beat the horde was not. I hope that 2K gets the balance a bit better, because the collection fights quickly became my least favorite part of the game, especially when fighting Biggie with nothing but a wrench and respawn chamber.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
