One of the biggest, cutest, and most plush releases of the holiday season just got a little bit more adorable. Last weekend, Sony spilled the beans on the release info for LittleBigPlanet 2, and there's no shortage of goodies to garner excitement for gamers.
First, we get a release date: November 16. So mark the date and all that. Then we get to the good stuff, which means bonus costumes if you're willing to commit to your copy before it hits retail. Pre-ordering at Amazon gets you the daring duo Ratchet & Clank as individual costumes, Best Buy reserves get the three-eyed alien from Pixar's Toy Story, and Gamestop customers can deck out as Clu from the upcoming TRON: Legacy. All pre-orders will also get a costume pack with "Even More Animals," and even the muppets get in on the fuzzy action with a playable Gonzo costume to be available soon after launch.
But I hear some gamers lamenting, "I don't want to preorder at all these places! I want all the Sackboy goodness Sony has to offer, plus some exclusive PSN avatars, and maybe a 7" Sackboy plushie and some neat 3D bookends to boot!" Well, lament no more, because Sony and Media Molecule are offering exactly that in the LittleBigPlanet 2 collector's edition, shown above. The bundle is pretty modestly-priced, too - including all the exclusive outfits as well as some real-world game goodies for just $20 more than the regular edition.
The idea of publishers setting content aside just for their pre-order customers is well-established by now, but the trend of retail-exclusive bonuses are fast becoming a thorn in the side of completionist gamers who want to know they have every single weapon, outfit, and level when they pick up their game. It's nice to finally see a solution to this trend through DLC-filled collector's editions like this one, so that no matter where your retail loyalties lie, you can rest assured you're getting as much Sackboy as you can handle.
Whether you're just picking up regular-ol' LittleBigPlanet 2 or going all the way with the collector's edition, look forward to it and its goodies on November 16!
