Huzzah! Online Support Extended For Demon's Souls!

So those of us who have been dreading the impending drop of online support for Demon's Souls have been granted a small respite. This week Atlus has announced it will continue to support the online community at least until March of 2011. The game will be shifted to pure white tendency, which will make the game much easier for a few weeks to hopefully draw a more casual crowd to the fierce action game.
This change in difficulty will act as a double edged sword as it may change the feel of the game for veterans of the series but will help draw in newbies, or folks scared away by the game's perilous difficulty.
So if you find yourself plowing through those difficult areas with ease, try to remember that it is only for a few weeks, in an attempt for Atlus to garner more business. With the service being free to begin with it is hard to complain and who knows, if enough newbies jump on board there is always the possibility of another extension.

PRESS RELEASE
ATLUS EXTENDS NORTH AMERICAN ONLINE SUPPORT FOR DEMON'S SOULS, 2009 GAME OF THE YEAR*, THROUGH AT LEAST MARCH 2011; WORLD TENDENCY SHIFTS TO PURE WHITE IN CELEBRATION
Good news, everyone!
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA - JULY 21, 2010 - Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced it would continue supporting servers for online play in Demon's SoulsTM, 2009's Game of the Year* for PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, through at least March 2011.
"We are proud to maintain our commitment to the Demon's Souls online community by extending our support for the game's servers, allowing current and new players to continue to enjoy the game's vast online feature set," stated Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales for Atlus. "One of the highest-rated, most talked about games of all time, Demon's Souls is defined by its groundbreaking online functionality. No other game better marries suspenseful, claustrophobic solitude with unprecedented cooperative and competitive multiplayer connectivity. Each game world, each individual's adventure, can be bridged with those of others', making for one of the most startlingly grand yet deeply intimate RPG experiences ever created."
To celebrate the announcement, the game server's World Tendency, a variable that can make the game more or less difficult and unlock secrets depending on its setting, will be shifted to Pure White for a couple weeks, making the notoriously challenging game slightly easier for newcomers while also allowing long-time veterans to reach otherwise inaccessible areas and items.
Demon's Souls is out now for PlayStation 3 system. For more information, visit the game's official website.

The game has only just recently been released in the UK. I was going to buy it, but if they are dropping online support this soon then I've changed my mind....
You can easily play offline, in fact I've done so purposefully for awhile when I got tired of constantly being invaded by other players. That said, they aren't saying that they will definitely shut it down come March 2011, they said -at least- to March 2011.
I've been playing the UK release for over a week now and haven't been invaded once, but then again... it might be running on different servers.
If it was just released in the UK, then it's probably on a different server, and isn't subject to this projected date.
I imported the Asian version and know players with the JP and US versions; they all operate on different servers.
By itself Demons souls its a MUST game for PS3 Owners,I can say it's the game I enjoyed most so far from the consoles.
All the reviews says it's hard but its not that hard.... only the first time.
And its perfectly playable offline.
But I hope when they turn dow the servers they release a patch so I can play Co-OP with my friends.
I agree the difficulty is exaggerated, I would say it's unforgiving but not horribly difficult, per say.
Not sure if that makes sense.
it was very interesting to read gaygamer.net
