So, You May Have Noticed...

Screen shot 2010-07-02 at 7.52.30 AM.png

You might have noticed that things are a little strange around here and in the forums. As most of you probably know, we were hacked a few days ago and Mikey has been working hard to get things back in order. We were hit pretty hard and it will probably be a little while before things are completely back to normal.

One for the big things that happened is about a fourteen months worth of images have been destroyed as well as the podcasts from that time period. A years worth of images is a hefty loss and the podcast loss was devastating. Fortunately, through the kindness of our many fans, we've almost gotten all of the recordings back where they belong.

The forums were hit as well and we are doing our best to get them back in order. We appreciate everyones patience while we try and restore as much as we possibly can. We don't really have a time frame as to when everything will be back to normal as Mikey is really having to handle most of this single handedly.

This is the second time we've been hacked and although the first time was clearly a hate inspired hit, this time around we believe it was just random. Someone with nothing better to do that to try and destroy someone else's hard work. It's sad that there are people like that in the world, but they are not going to stop us. They didn't stop us the first time and they sure as hell aren't going to stop us just days before we celebrate our four year anniversary.

Thank you all so much for supporting us through the ups and downs of the last four years. We consider this just another stumbling block along the way. It might be a larger block than we've stumbled over before, but nothing that will keep us from providing a space for gamers of all kinds to visit and feel safe.

Sincerely,

Fruit Brute, Mikey, Tiny Dancer and the Staff at GayGamer.net

When I tried to enter on your site the other day and I realized the site was hacked I was upset and frustrated. After a few minutes I almost felt sorry for someone that his personal life is so empty that doesn't have anything else to do.
Good luck fixing the site guys...

and for haters/hackers:
GO HATE YOURSELF!

This is just awful, I had no idea how bad the damage was :( I do think the site was targeted because of it's subject matter...the hacker claimed to be Muslim and as with almost all religions there are beliefs that dictate homosexuality as sinful and wrong.

No doubt someone using his religion as an excuse to hate and hurt others.

All the best with getting the site back up :)

@ Craig J:
But here you have the prove that THERE ARE NO HATERS JUST HYPOCRITES. The same side of the Muslim religion (the conservative side) that condemns homosexuality also condemns ANY kind of use of Internet. Again another hypocrite.

You guys run a great site and it's really disappointing to hear you've been hacked again. Keep up the good work and don't let the haters get you down!

That really, really sucks. You have my condolences. Whoever did this clearly has issues that need resolving.

I don't think we should be making any assumptions about the hackers' religious affiliation, even based on what they themselves said.

I would never believe anything a hacker says, and wouldn't be the least bit surprised if everything they said was just a red herring to spread more confusion and disruption. Besides, hackers are morally bankrupt individuals, which puts them outside of the teachings of any major religion.

Pauwow said:

Actually NaviFairy has a really good point. It could be just someone just trying to plant some kaos. I could say I'm a doctor that doesn't make it true ^_^.
Thanks to whomever fixed the site!

Was very sorry to see the site hacked the other day. I'm sure it has been a few days of stress behind the scenes.

Keep up the great work, and I'm sure we all appreciate the effort you put in to make this site the uniquely brilliant experience it is.

Craig J said:

I hadn't considered the idea that the hacker may have been lying. Certainly that's a possibility.

Also, I chose my words carefully in my first reply so as not to suggest or imply that all Muslim people, or all religious people are in any way hackers or extremists or anti-homosexual. I hope that came across.

Pauwow said:

@Craig J: I understood your message because you used the word "almost" which implies that you are not talking about 100% of people.

Good luck restoring the site guys !

Thanks for all of your hard work. Not only is this a sanctioned space for LGBT allies, but also a group of thought-provoking, articulate gamers. Your database is incredibly important: daily I enjoy reading editorials, reviews, and forum posts alike, curious how sexuality continues to evolve in gaming. Rest assured that its recovery is greatly appreciated!

I'm very sorry that the site was hacked. I knew it the instant that I couldn't log in/get on the forums. What an troublesome pain in the arse! I'm so glad that folks are helping with the podcast and image restoration, though. Losing so much -- fourteen months worth -- is a sharp stab in the eye.

All the GG.net crew's hard work is appreciated. This is one place I come to and actually look forward to reading its articles, rather than cringe from it.
