Wal-Mart Reveals Kinect Bundle, $199 Is The Price Of Your Dignity

Going into E3 this year a lot of people were excited about Kinect. Leaving E3 this year a lot of people were confused, unsure about its lack of hardcore games, and still wondering just how much would the shiny new toy cost them. Even before the show, many were speculating that the base setup would run you about $150 bones. A lot of retailers are already listing it there without anything official coming from Microsoft.
The latest in the rash of these listings comes from MTV Multiplayer showing a Wal-Mart ad listing a special Kinect bundle for $199 (with bonus $30 eGift Card). In the big ol' package you'll get the base unit with a "choice of game." The site currently lists Kinect Adventures!, Kinect Sports, and Dance Central for $60 a pop, so you're essentially saving $40.
Now I don't know about you, but I'm a little under whelmed by all this. First, even with my "hands-off" experience at E3 I'm not sold on Kinect. It's not that I didn't find it fun, but I didn't really see a whole lot of new gameplay there to get me excited. While I know it wasn't possible with the Eyetoy, a lot of the games on the show floor felt like Eyetoy 2.0 experiences to me. Second, the fact that neither Adventures! or Sports are included in the box is extremely disappointing, let alone the ridiculous $60 price tag per game. Finally, the future of this thing looks highly uncertain. Of the 15 or so launch window games, only one of them looked "interesting" (Ubisoft's strangely enchanting Your Shape Fitness) and publishers have been pretty quiet about follow up titles. But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe this isn't overpriced and will connect with a lot of people. What do you think dear reader? Kinect pricing and bundles: hot or not hot?

I think definitely not. I can't see 'casual' gamers (for which, this is obviously marketed) forking out the cash not only to buy an xbox 360 if they don't already have one, but also a kinect and $60(US?) a title. It seems ridiculous that microsoft would expect a casual gamer to do so. The whole beauty of the Wii is that it is cheap(er), easily portable, compact, fun and well errrrr... cheap.
OH SNAP! and I was complaining a few min ago on the Playstation blog because their Motion controller (50 bucks) didn't include a game. The price seems extremely high on both consoles:
360:
Kinect $ 150 + game $ 60 + new Xbox360 $ 299 = 509 bucks
ps3 Move seems cheaper but still...
PS3 Bundle with console, Motion controller, Ps Eye, Sports game and a normal controler $399
Sony confirmed this prices on their blog:
Motion Controller $ 50
Nunch... I mean Navigation Controller = $30
Sports game = $ 40 bucks
Pack with psEye, Motion controller and sports game = $ 100
And the worst thing of all it's that this games looks like the first year of the Wii, a bit nicer because of the resolution but far away from being impressive. I'm not saying that I hate Kinect/Move but I think it will take at least a year to make an interesting game; by then the 3DS will be selling like candy and I will be surprised if Nintendo doesn't have his Wii3D (or Wii HD) ready.
Not even if they were giving them away for free...
The great thing about the wii is that it's a cheap piece of crap with ps2 graphics that cashes in on casual gamers and people wanting the same games in a new form (Zelda and Mario...and Kirby..and Super Smash Brothers and Metroid)
Yeah, I'm with Shin on this one. I don't have a 360 yet, and there's no way I'm paying an additional $200. I've got my wii, and it works fine. Personally, I think the price point is something of an insult. 30 years from now, this might be seen as the new "intellivision keyboard" of gaming mistakes.
Thats a crap load of money for a gimmicky attachment that doesn't bring anything really new to the market. Plus 60$ for each title which would be fine if they were awesome, but so far the games seem ripped from cheaper wii titles.
