Tropico 4 Sailing Onto PCs Next Year

tropico4.jpg

If the likes of StarCraft II, Civilization V, and Shogun 2: Total War weren't enough to sate your hunger for PC strategy sequels, then you may want to prepare for your trip to the Carribean with Tropico 4, set for release next year.

As the second game announced by Kalypso recently (alongside Dungeons), Tropico 4 looks to be riding the wave of interest that came from last year's Tropico 3. The series leans more toward simulation and resource management than strategy, since the real threats come from revolution, dissent, and public opinion among your citizens and the global superpowers. With options to appeal to the U.S. or Russia, grow crops for foreign corporations, assassinate your political opponents, and even force the courts to accept same-sex marriage, Tropico 3 allows for a wide range of scenarios and play styles, even if your goal was to create a Carribean paradise or just screw over the population and dump your funds to a Swiss bank account.

The next iteration of the series, besides featuring far more colorful and lush visuals, promises to include a heap of new maps and scenarios, new buildings such as a stock exchange and water park, deeper political options which include appointing qualified citizens to your Council of Ministers to help push through more controversial edicts, and that new spectre of social media: Twitter & Facebook integration. Yes, you can post leaderboard challenges and screenshots of your individual Tropico for your friends to ignore! Though if the islands' foliage is as striking as the above shot, the occasional 'Wish you were here' from a fellow player wouldn't be entirely unwelcome.

Following the worldwide success of Tropico 3, Kalypso Media is pleased to announce that Tropico 4, the next title in the bestselling strategy simulation series, is currently in development by Haemimont Games for Windows PC. News on a possible console version of Tropico 4 will be made available soon. In Tropico 4, El Presidente returns to the island of Tropico, and this time, he's bringing new enemies and allies along for the ride, as he fights to turn his little island into a superpower. New content and gameplay features will influence whether our fearless leader can create a feared superpower, or become nothing more than a small-time banana republic ruler.

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times- geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers -- and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements. You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

Features:

* New campaign consisting of 20 missions on 10 new maps
* 20 new buildings including Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente
* Six new Interactive disasters including volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes
* Council of Ministers - appoint selected citizens to ministerial posts in the government to help push through your more controversial decisions
* National Agenda- receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events such as ongoing disasters
* Facebook and Twitter integration- post live Tweets directly from the game or create posts automatically upon completion of missions, unlocking achievements, etc. Store and display achievements on a Tropico 4 Facebook page and see their how your Dictator rankings fare against other players (PC only feature)
* Screenshot gallery- take screenshots of your tropical paradise and share on your Facebook page (PC only feature)
* Trading system - import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production

Tropico 4 is currently in development by Haemimont Games and is scheduled for release in Q2 2011. For more information please visit www.kalypsomedia.com
