Nintendo Announces 3DS Release Date In Japan, Makes More Gamer Dreams Come True

So Nintendo had a really big press conference yesterday and talked about a whole bunch of new stuff. We had some of our guys make a few tweets about it last night, but here's a summary...

-We got word that the 3DS will ship to stores in Japan on February 26th 2011 for tune of 25000 yen (that's about $300 US dollars). While no North American or European dates or prices were officially announced, it was mentioned that both territories will see a March release.

-Nintendo plans to ship the hardware with a 2 gig SD card which is kind of thoughtful of them.

-The 3DS will have its own Virtual Console. The only systems announced for the platform so far are the original Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. I wouldn't expect to see your NES/SNES VC games on your Wii migrate over to the 3DS, but hey, you never know...

-The Wii Remote Plus was officially announced and is exactly what it sounds like, your standard Wii Remote with a Motion Plus unit build inside. All five Wii owners that were holding out for this announcement should be excited.

-On a software front, it appears as though Rhythm Heaven will be making its quirky way onto the Wii in the future.

-Capcom was there to talk about two games for the upcoming handheld: Resident Evil: Mercenaries, Street Fighter 4, and a little something called Mega Man Legends 3.

-A remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the 3DS will be released early next year. The updated visuals are stunning, controls remapped, and some new cameras show off the world much better than the original release.

-We also got a look at other titles headed to the 3DS with the montage trailer seen above with Metal Gear, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus and more. If there isn't something in this trailer that excites you, it may be time to reconsider how much this whole "gaming" thing means to you.

The Last Story to be released January 27th, 2011

With a western release in America AND Europe in the Spring not long after I hope [Xenoblade and Golden Sun: Darkest Dawn also]!

3DS will support Miis
I like all this Mii Studio stuff. Finally I can make a better Mii!

Pseudo-multi-tasking, you can hit the home button to launch certain apps while in game
Nice. Which means its a done deal for the next console too.

3DS can connect to Wi-Fi in sleep mode and automatically download game data such as rankings.
What the Wii coulda, woulda, should've done really.

3DS launch February 26th, 2011 for Japan, cost is 25,000 Yen
March 2011 launch for North America and Europe, no price given
The Japan release was a shock, but not the western March release [it coincides with Pokemon B&W, naturally].
As for the price, I love how the interwebs panties are all in a twist when its fairly obvious Japan will have the higher price point due to their superior obsession with the newest tech than us westerners. :P

Two colors available at launch: Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black
Where's my purple BEAST?!

3DS will come with 2GB SD
All I'll probably need, personally. Nice touch.

GB, GBA, and other classic games will be 3D enhanced and will be sold on the VC service (games shown: Link’s Awakening DX and Super Mario Land)
Well at least there is still an original games service alongside this. Hope this doesn't bog it down though [still, at least it won't be as bad as the DSi thing]...

3DS will supposedly revitalize sales for 3rd party games
Yep, more graphics and the current big thing = support nowadays.

On other areas, Pilotwings 3DS is disappointing. Too much like WSR and not its own thing. :|

I'm also not fond of how many ports / rehashes are initially coming for it [launch day and beyond], but maybe it'll be best to get them all outta the way first...

Either way, I'm definitely getting an Aqua Blue 3DS with Pokemon Black, Paper Mario 3DS and Kid Icarus [maybe Mario Kart as well, pending funds] come March! :)

I'll be holding off on buying a 3DS until Paper Mario comes out... anything Paper Mario is on my must-buy list.
