Public Service Announcement -- It Gets Better

In response to the suicide of 15 year old Billy Lucas, a Greensburg, Indiana high school student who was the target of slurs and bullying, gay advice columnist Dan Savage has launched the It Gets Better Project.

If you're gay or lesbian or bi or trans, and you've ever read about a kid like Billy Lucas and thought, "Fuck, I wish I could've told him that it gets better," this is your chance. We can't help Billy, but there are lots of other Billys out there--other despairing LGBT kids who are being bullied and harassed, kids who don't think they have a future--and we can help them....

We want to hear YOUR STORY of How It Got Better! Create your video, post it to YouTube, and send the URL to mail (at) savagelove.net. We'll review it and post to our FAVORITES section.

Keep an eye for some GayGamers to make an appearance soon.

Ok, I admit -- I teared up. I wish I had seen this 15 years ago.

Thankyou Mikey and GayGamer for posting this, I know a few kids who can benefit from watching this. And yep, I teared up also, but I wasn't out in high school, I was too afraid to be myself.

I got a little teary while listening to the savage love cast when Dan was talking about this before hand.

This will definitely help people because I know I was like this kid when I was his age thankfully I had the internet and didn't feel alone.

This is so so profoundly beautiful. I wish there was more I could do in these regards. This is such a lovely start.

This was very lovely. I appreciate the effort and message that went into this. There needs to be more initiative and things like this out there. Thank you.

Straight boy here- I listen to the Lovecast all the time and I really liked the sentiment. I'm really glad to see this pop up on one of my favourite game news sites. I wish that there was something, anything I could do to help, and this- this is just fantastic. Wish that comment could have been more constructive, but that's what you get for now. I'm going to go finish crying and go to bed.

This sentiment is so true. My middle school and high school were a hellish gauntlet of mistreatment that I had no choice but to return to day after day. The real world just isn't like that. If someone pisses you off, you don't have to spend time with them! If your work pisses you off, you can quit and find another job! You have choices.

I've designed an "It Gets Better" t-shirt that I'm trying to spread the word about. My goal is to bring more attention to Dan Savage's fantastic project and also donate a really generous portion of my sales to the Trevor Project.
