PSPgo Shedding $50 To Try And Make It Into Your Collection

It's been a long time coming, but those of you holding out for the download-only PSPgo to reach a more affordable price may be in luck. That is, if $199 sounds affordable. Sony officially announced the price drop for Japan last night, and online retailers have been following suit in the US, which makes it pretty much official. This marks a $50 decrease in price since the system's launch.
The PSPgo has yet to see a huge measure of success - its sleek design is a result of being made from an old Sony messenger design, and the lack of UMD drive support meant that gamers were limited to only those PSP games which they could find via download. And even today, that's not as many as it should be.
Just as an example, Sony's first-party PSP games that have mysteriously missed out on the download tip include the SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3, Jak & Daxter: The Lost Frontier, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge, Resistance: Retribution, LocoRoco 2, Secret Agent Clank, and even the upcoming God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
The list of titles unavailble to Go owners grows even more when you include third-party publishers. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, GTA: Chinatown Wars, and even PSP-only games like Metal Gear Solid: PO and Lumines I & II have yet to appear on Sony's PSP store. Fans of RPGs are also missing out on amazing things like Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep, Phantasy Star Portable 1 & 2, Prinny, Yggdra Union, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, and Final Fantasy Tactics.
All these games plus an $80 gap have been excellent reasons to get a PSP-3000 instead of a PSPgo for the past year, though that gap is now closing. Is $199 a good price for the cute lil portable with gadget appeal? Or--as with the DSiXL earlier this year--is this opportunity overshadowed by the imminent release of the portable sequel? We'll find out if those little handhelds are cleared out by the time PSP2 rolls around!

Heh. They can discount that paperweight all they want. Without support from developers, it will never be worth the money. Btw, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories can be downloaded. I played it on my 2000. Great game!
Thanks for the tip, Rahzen! I was going based on the US Sony PSN site, which lists it as UMD only. Maybe that's a fluke, or even one of those rare cases where the downloadable option expired. Good to know there's at least one more option for those new GOwners!
No prob. Maybe they care so little about the PSP in general that they update the store but not the info on the site. If so, that's sloppy.
