Video: Download The Sonic Fan Remix Demo Right Now [UPDATE]
Stop whatever you're doing and download this right now. That video above isn't just for show, this is a real demo made by a two-man team of dedicated Sonic fans. Sure, there are a few collision detection issues and some other technical hiccups, but it is still hugely impressive what two people with no budget can produce. I'm not going to say outright that it blows Sonic 4 away, but let's just say that if Sega put future episodes of Sonic 4 in their capable hands I would breathe a huge sigh of relief.
Ok, a brief reality check. This is just the Emerald Hill Acts 1 and 2 from Sonic 2 remade with (much) prettier HD graphics, along with an original level sandwiched between them. Also, there are some times when the sensory overload can get too much and the scenery will distract from things like, say, spotting enemies. But if you're a Sonic fan, then you should probably be downloading this right now.
Update: It looks like someone (I can't imagine who) had the Sonic Fan Remix demo pulled and the original Rapidshare link no longer works. An alternate download link can be found in the first post of this thread on the Sonic Retro forums. That download link will probably get taken down too by the end of the day, so act fast if you want to play the demo.

That was fantastic! I played that demo like 5 times in a row. THIS is what Sonic 4 should of been! No ugly Sonic model to try to make him look more modern. The speed and physics are just like the original sonic games. Loved it! Of course it takes a dedicated fan to make a great sonic game. Sega just doesn't have a clue anymore. I also loved how each level showed Dr. Robotnik's progress of taking over Westside Island. I can't wait to see the finish product of this fan made game.
:( i clicked on the link and it says the demo has been pulled
Oh noes! That sucks... hold on.
Click on my name above this comment to get a new link to the Sonic fan remake demo.
Oh Lord. I hate to be "that guy", but I have to ask a noob question. Do you need to have a game controller to play this game? Because I've just been pressing random buttons on my keyboard hoping that *one* of them is the "Start" button.
Enter on the number key pad is the default for the start button. If you click on the "Input" tab when you first double click on the game, you can scroll down and change the start/pause button input. Just double click it and change it to whatever key you want it to be. Why they made the "Enter" on the key pad the default key for Start, I have no idea.
Awesome story and effort there... thanks guys!
I can't seem to get it start up. It keeps popping up an error: "There should be 'Sonic Fan Remix_Data' folder next to the executable." I don't see this folder. Can someone make a video or explain step by step how to get it started? :(
