Final Fantasy XIV launched on September 30 on the PC, with plans to release a version on the PlayStation 3 in March of 2011. Unfortunately, that has changed. The current release estimate for the console MMORPG? "To be determined." I'll let Square Enix explain:
Rather than simply converting the current Windows PC version, it is our intention to include all the improvements we currently plan to meet customer expectations for the PS3™ version. In order to do so, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the release timing of the PS3™ version from our previous plan of early March 2011. The new release date will be announced swiftly upon final determination. We would like to thank customers and other related parties for their patience as they eagerly await the release of the PS3™ version.
Since the launch of the Windows PC version, we have taken a number of actions based on user feedback to provide them a better game experience including a major version update in late November. In addition, we have decided to extend the free trial period until after we can confidently present customers with a plan outlining a level of enjoyment that will satisfy both us and our customers.
Well, while I'd like to commend them for releasing no wine before its time, I'd also have thought that Squeenix would've already figured out what they had to do for the PS3 version before releasing the PC one. Still, I suppose that PS3 gamers can take comfort in the fact that they'll be playing a really awesome version of the game... eventually!
