The much-anticipated latest entry in the Killzone series is well on its way to release, promising more frantic FPS goodness and "dear god, it's beautiful" visuals on the war-torn battlefield.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term "going gold," it means that the game is completely finished and ready to be pressed to disc. Much elation has gripped the staff of Guerrilla Games, toasts have been made, and the obligatory office party has no doubt descended into a night of raucous fun with much laughter, back-slapping, and Helghast helmets being cleverly converted into beer bongs while the boss looks on with muted disapproval. Inevitably a slightly-tipsy Jim from sound design finally musters the courage to express to Jenna the intern those feelings he's kept locked away in the chambers of his for months, resulting in uncomfortable silence and a subsequent bout of small talk ending with a tense agreement that "i don't think this needs to get in the way of our working relationship."
The game features PlayStation Move support, and will be the first in the series to be compatible with "3D ready" televisions. In addition to the standard release, gamers can fork over some extra cash to get the "Helghast Edition," which includes an online voucher for the soundtrack, the "Retro Map Pack," a 100 page book feature the art of Killzone 3, a replica Helghast helmet (which will go nicely with the 6.5 inch action figure included in the package), "making of" videos, as well as some other extras. The Helghast Edition will sell for $130, and those who pre-order the game from select retailers can get even more additional goodies upon release.
Killzone 3 will be arriving on Feb. 22nd, so save your pennies and prepare to wage war against interstellar fascism once more. To arms, comrades!
