In case you haven't already heard a thousand times from hopping on twitter or visiting just about any blog even tangentially related to videogames, there was a little 3DS shindig happening in New York today. Our own Wootini is off at the event, and will have much more to say about the system and it's launch titles later, but in the mean time I wanted to bring some news that many have long been waiting for: a price and release date.
The Nintendo 3DS will release in the US on March 27 for the price of $249.99 and in two colors: aqua blue and cosmo black. Each system also comes bundled with a 2GB SD card and a charging cradle, as well as a bevy of preinstalled software and cards for use in augmented reality games.
Elsewhere in the world there was actually a second event going on announcing an earlier March 25 release date for the system in European territories, though oddly no price was given to accompany that date.
So what are your thoughts? $250 is actually exactly what I was expecting the system to cost, but I'm sure there were some of you out there hoping for or expecting something lower. Is the 3DS a must-have at launch, or do you plan on waiting for the practically inevitable 3DS Lite?
