Video: Biting The Bullet And Buying Oblivion
Skyrim is right around the corner. And it's going to feature a schnazzy new engine. Now is the time for me to stake my claim in the great world of the Elder Scrolls. So I fired up the runabout and set course for the nerd hole to pick up the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game Of The Year Edition.
And just for yucks, I'm giving my self a month to beat the game.

This is awesome!!! Nice hair :)
If you stick to the main storyline quests, a month is more than enough time. If you are going to do all or even most of the side quests, you're going to have to put some serious time into it, and a month may not be enough time unless you eat, sleep and breathe Oblivion. I would highly recommend doing some reading at http://uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Oblivion if you get stuck or are interested in learning more about the game mechanics.

For all the mods you'll need. The vanilla game is still really good, but there are some amazing mods that really unlock the potential. I hardly even recognize the game as it is out of the box anymore.
Good luck, I spent close to 500 hours lost in the world of Cyrodill. I REALLY can't wait for Skyrim.
Shin, from the appearances of the video, he picked up the 360 version of it, so mods are likely a no-go. :( (I really, really like the modding community for TES series).
It was very odd when I finally got a friend into Oblivion and he would call me with UI questions about which I had no clue because he was playing the 360 version, whereas I was accustomed to my keyboard-and-mouse combo. At some point I may have to try it with a controller just to see how well the experience translates (from my friend's reporting, very well).
Good Luck!! I never got more than a few days into it before I just got confused and lost and felt torn between too many things to do. I also got caught in the PC version various Mod's you can download to improve the appearance which ultimately took my attention away from the game too much. I'll be watching for sure.
Is it wrong that my favorite part of that video was the ONJ?
Seriously, I'm interested in your response to Oblivion. As a massively ridiculous fan of Morrowind (I'm afraid to think about how many hours I sank into that game), I found myself disappointed with Oblivion.
Still looking forward to Skyrim, though!
aww I love Oblivion
someone made a trailer of new Skyrim pics with the music from Oblivion that plays when you're walking around the forests and I said Awwwww.
memories.
Find the Artist lost in his painting quest, that one was fun. I forget where he lives. Denerim?...ah well...
@vorpalbunny The game isn't awful with a controller, it just feels kinda sluggish when you're getting attacked from behind and it takes forever to turn around (one of the reasons I hate playing FPS games with a controller as well).
I'm pretty sure he'll still have a blast with the game, though, I played it on 360 before I got it on PC, and still really loved it.
Wootini, me too! I love, love, loved Morrowind (and Daggerfall before it--my ultimate time sink in the series was that one).
Oblivion on the other hand? I knew something was wrong when I couldn't cross-dress (without mods). From there it just seemed there was one disappointment after another (relatively--I still enjoyed it).
I had the opposite experience of some of the other commenters here; I liked Morrowind pretty well but I really think that Oblivion improved on it in every meaningful way. I did miss being able to use spears, but that's pretty minor.
