Looks like Sony Online Entertainment is going to be treating DC Universe Online like one of the DC comic books upon which the PC/PS3 title is based. Today marks the first of what they're promising to be many monthly updates for the game featuring all-new content.
The first update contains an all-new Character of the Month, which is Catwoman. Can you stop her from robing ancient Egyptian cat artifacts from the Gotham Museum? A special Catwoman Episode will feature an adventure where you chase down Catwoman as security guards and innocent bystanders are turned into vicious beasts, partake in five boss battles, and enjoy a unique Catwoman cutscene. And you'll also get Catwoman as a playable character in Legends "Play as Iconic" PvP mode, a Multiplayer race pitting you against Catwoman on the Gotham rooftops, and a set of Ancient Mayan Armor and Cat Burglar gear.
But that's not all! You'll also get the Seasonal Content "Love Is A Battlefield." The combat between Wonder Woman and Circe has disrupted the balance of magic, and players can now enter the cherub shadow realm, where (as cherubs) they can fight to determine the true meaning of love. Aw! You can earn hearts through unique PvP battles, shooting love arrows at citizens, participating in multiplayer races to purchase chocolates, gifts, rings, and whatnot for other players. You can battle the Goddess of Love in a four-player boss fight, don a harlequin clown suit or a cherub disguise, and replay boss battles in the "Be Mine" mode to get them to... um, be yours. If you're into that sort of thing!
Wait this update still isn't finished! There's also a new Bane Duo, a two-player battle against the massive Batman villain, a new Gotham PvP zone, and Batcave 2 Raid, which is a new 8-player raid zone added to the Batcave where you'll fight alongside Batman against Brainiac and Brother Eye. You can also visit the auction houses in either the Watchtower or the Hall of Doom to swag gear with each other to get your hero/villain as tricked out as you want to be. There's also new collections, races and investigations.
Whew! That's a lot of content, and it's all available starting right now for both the PS3 and PC, and for free. Not a bad deal, but I'd expect nothing less since there's a monthly subscription fee for the MMO!
