Gallery: SMT Devil Survivor Overclocked
So Atlus sent out a bunch of new screenshots for their upcoming Nintendo 3DS title Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked. They sure do look pretty, and as I said in my earlier post announcing the game, I'm more than a little intrigued by the strategy RPG, having not played the original that this remake comes from. The only thing is that looking at this round of screens, I noticed something that I didn't in the first batch. All of the battle screens and such are on the bottom screen, which is in 2D.
The top screen of the 3DS is the one that's in glorious 3D, so what — are the stat screens going to pop out at you? It would seem that cutscenes take place on the 3D screen, but being 2D images, I expect it to look like a 3D comic book with flat planes of depth. But that one shot of the cinema where the visuals take up both screens... is that going to be half 2D and half 3D? I'm starting to wonder if this was maybe a regular DS title that Atlus decided to port over to the 3DS because they knew it would be hurting for launch titles, and they'd sell a few more because of it. Because looking at these screenshots... I don't see how it's taking advantage of the 3DS aside from nicer graphics. They are nice graphics, though...

The art style reminds me (in an at-a-glance kind of way) of The World Ends With You, a game that I truly hate.
actually i think Atlus already said that DSO won't have any 3D at all, hence the stats on the 3D screen.
@April: don't worry, there's no way those two games can be compared (hated The World Ends With You as well)! Devil Survivor's one of the greatest things that happened to the DS. extremely stressful and depressing, but it's a pure Atlus gem!
Aw, that's a shame. I don't remember reading anything like that in any of the press releases they've sent me. I know I'm a 3D nerd, but I really hope that this doesn't become a "thing," developers releasing non-3D titles on the 3DS to take advantage of the better processor and graphics. I want them all in 3D! :-D
i got the news from various french VG websites (here's one: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/news/2011/00047986-pas-de-relief-pour-devil-survivor-sur-3ds.htm) but well, as an Atlus fanatic, i've seen so many wrong things written about them here in france that i never trust those websites completely haha!
another bad news came out this morning btw, telling that Atlus don't have any plan to release "Catherine" outside of Japan. unfortunately they don't have a european branch and we're not enough fans here in europe to do something about it, but if american fans could push a bit so we could at least have an english version :'(
