Video: Push The Limit (Of Wild Flailing) With Michael Phelps And Kinect
Yesterday I joked that there weren't many games worth using the Kinect with. Just to clarify, I love my Kinect, and think there's tremendous potential in the hardware. But apparently the people at 505 Games took me seriously, because as if to prove me right they have announced Michael Phelps - Push The Limit for Kinect. Yes, a swimming game for Kinect.
Maybe I'm lacking imaginiation, but I can only see this going horribly wrong. Either it goes for accessibility and has you play while standing up, in which case it isn't a very good representation of swimming and takes leg movements out of the picture. Or it could go for accuracy and have players flailing on the floor like an epileptic Magikarp. Here's hoping that there's a third motion control method that I'm missing, because I'm always up for an excuse to get some glistening, wet, speedo-clad man-bodies on my TV.
Michael Phelps - Push The Limit well release this June on Xbox 360.

I cannot thank you enough for helping me kickstart my day with Michael Phelps in a speedo.
Since the trailer showed the precision with which the kinect can measure the angle of your arms in the water but had nothing to say about the legs I imagine it's arm movements that will matter most.
Charlie's probably right.
But if you're still after a third control scheme - you could lean back in your seat, and pedal your legs in the air as if you were riding a bike (or doing the backstroke badly).
So no getting out the ironing board or laying on the living room table necessary?
oh good...
