Voltron: Defender of the Universe, the giant robot warrior composed of five smaller robot lions will be getting his own video game series from THQ and should be released some time this fall. This appeals greatly to my inner Seth Green.
Some of you younger gaymers might not get why this is such a big deal. Fortunately, this is very easy to explain: Voltron was awesome. The show took place in space, had classic bad anime voice acting and scripting, one of the lions was piloted by a princess, had space mice, and the giant robot himself actually made sense as a concept. Lions travel in prides, their unity making them stronger as a whole than individuals would be alone. By contrast, Mighty Moprhin' Power Rangers' Megazord (Piloted by teens with attitude? Pfft. Princesses and space explorers trump high-schoolers) was a hodge-podge of random dinosaurs. I mean, come on, the tyrannosaurus would EAT the pterodactyl!
Not much more information on the game has been released at this time, but I would imagine little press releases will start finding their way into inboxes in late summer or early fall, so once those start making the rounds I'll keep y'all updated. In the meantime, I need to go see if Hulu happens to have old episodes available for viewing.
