As a big fan of the Silent Hill videogame series, I was naturally skeptical when they made a movie adaptation. So I was pleasantly surprised to find it unusually faithful to the imagery and spirit of the source material. I've been hoping for the rumors of a sequel to pan out into actual fact, but now I'm a little skeptical upon receiving Konami's press release regarding Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
First of all, why must everything be in 3D nowadays? It makes the ticket prices higher, and rarely adds anything to the moviegoing experience. Hopefully this film will be shot in 3D and not processed after-the-fact, which never looks as good. I'm also wary because director Christophe Gans is not attached this time around. No, this time, the director's chair will be filled by Michael J. Bassett, who directed Solomon Kane and Deathwatch, neither of which I've seen.
"We are all excited to have the Silent Hill team reunited in Toronto for the sequel to one of the best horror franchises of all time," said Producer Samuel Hadida of Davis Films. "With Michael at the directing helm, we will be building on the first film and taking the Silent Hill story into new territories with exciting storylines and visuals that will grab both new audiences, and those familiar with the Silent Hill franchise."
We'll just have to wait and see, but on the plus side, it appears to be an adaptation of my favorite game in the series, Silent Hill 3:
For years, Heather Mason and her father have been on the run, always one step ahead of dangerous forces that she doesn't fully understand. Now on the eve of her 18th birthday, plagued by terrifying nightmares and the disappearance of her father, Heather discovers she's not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deeper into a demonic world that threatens to trap her in Silent Hill forever.
And actress Adelaide Clemens certainly does look the part of Heather. I mean, they even put her in the vest with the hoodie! As long as the movie starts with her in a mall, I'm good. I didn't have high hopes for the first Silent Hill, but since I actually really liked it, I really want this one to be good, too!
