Video: Introducing Uncharted 3's Villain (Treacherous Spoilers!)
This post has spoilers, so you may just want to skip past it if you want to remain blissfully ignorant about Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception and its villain.
Her name is Katherine Marlowe, and she looks as if she's quite capable of handling herself. I want to make a quick bulleted list of why I am already optimistic about her:
- She's elderly! The number of important, elderly women in games is rather rare.
- A female villain who is not scantily clad? What is this? I don't even...
- Sardonic. I love me some sardonic characters.
- Makes a reference to Drake's enjoyment of combat and pain (perhaps an indictment of us, the player...), and looks to be much more calculated and cunning than his previous foes.
Katherine was introduced during GDC, and this Naughty Dog blog post goes on to tell us about her secret society past, desire for Francis Drake's ring, and looks to be generally more interesting than the past two villains (not knocking the games, but the villains rarely seemed too interesting--focus was elsewhere). As to how she'll hold up? She's made an impressive entrance, but we'll have to see if it holds up to scrutiny outside of a trailer.
There's also some bits about stereoscopic 3D, but as there's no video, we just have to take their word for it that it's a new experience that can enhance and make the experience easier for us.

Oh my god is that Helen Mirin?!?!?!?
I love her already.
