Video: Doctor Lautrec And The Forgotten Knights

Remember a while back when I told you about Professor Layton and the... sorry, Doctor Lautrec and the Forgotten Knights? Well, Konami has now released a trailer and a handful of screenshots that aren't really doing a whole lot to dissuade me from my initial impressions that this NIntendo 3DS title is a total clone/rip-off/homage of Professor Layton. Of course, the trailer doesn't really give much of an idea of the gameplay, which is where I'm beginning to suspect the game differs. At least, I hope so, because the animated cut scenes of a top hat-wearing intellectual solving puzzles and defeating a crazy villain with the help of a young sidekick in a Europe of years gone by? Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. Well, actually, I haven't got a Professor Layton T-shirt. Does one exist? I should look into that...

Anyway, from what I've seen, Doctor Lautrec seems to be more of an action-oriented game, where you physically move around on the screen to interact with the puzzles, instead of just looking at still screens. And hopefully the puzzles are better integrated into the world instead of just being arbitrary "You want to go past me to go down these stairs? Well, first help me solve this math problem" kind of things. Also different? Boss battles. At least that's what that one screenshot looks like!

And honestly, since there's no new Professor Layton to play, I'm probably going to get my puzzle game fix from Doctor Lautrec this summer... Hope Hershel doesn't mind me cheating on him! (Plus, there's a monkey! Who doesn't love monkeys?)
