Buy A PC, Get An Xbox

toshiba_g61_110sa_windows7_laptop_review.jpg

It's kind of odd timing, what with summer almost here, but Microsoft is launching a promotion with participating retailers starting on May 22 where students who buy a Windows 7 PC that costs more than $699 will receive a free Xbox 360. The deal runs through September 3, so I guess they're looking to attract kids who are getting ready to go to college or back to it or something. The thing is, they're trying to make it out like you'll be the coolest kid in your dorm because you've got an awesome new Windows 7 PC and an Xbox 360. But the thing is, while you can choose to get a really awesome laptop, you're stuck with the 4GB 360 that they're offering. I mean, I guess for free, you can't really complain. If you were already going to buy an expensive PC, getting a free Xbox is gravy. But I feel like it almost might be worth getting a cheaper PC and buying a proper 360 with a 250 GB hard drive. Then again, that's just me... Also? Totally not a student anymore. Haven't been a student for quite some time!

That's a really awesome deal, especially for those planning to buy a PC anyway. And consider this - if you don't want to keep the Xbox 360, you can sell it and recoup some of the money spent on the computer.

The only problems are I already have a 360, and a gaming PC, and I don't trust PCs I don't build myself. It IS a good deal though, if you're looking to upgrade.

If you're already in the market for a new PC this is a good deal. You can always just get a bigger HD for the 360, you'd still come out ahead.

Guess the 360 sales must really be tanking for micro$oft to be grasping with offers like this. Like the author said, if I was to get a 360 it would be a proper one, a 4GB memory is less than useless these days. I wonder if they'll be phasing the model out and are using this as an easy way to off load them?

You do realize that using a dollar sign for the S in Microsoft makes it literally impossible to take anything you say seriously, right?

They're just as likely trying to get more people into using a Windows 7 system as they are trying to get rid of x-boxes. Some people out there may have been burned enough by Vista that they still haven't moved up to Win7 after rolling back to XP. That could also explain why the minimum price to qualify for an x-box is relatively low.

I might jump on this. I've been thinking about a new laptop lately...

Would have to upgrade that hard drive though.

Remember that USB flash drives can now be used as storage for the Xbox 360, up to 16GB. For a lot of people, the 4GB it already has will be enough. And the USB option is a cheap, easy way to add more capacity as needed.

Its not a good deal. You are actually getting less pc for the price and the xbox is not free anyways.

I was lead to believe from microsoft that it would be any box over 699, but its select boxes over 699.

Basically the price of the xbox basic is factored to the pc.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
