L.A. Noire: Too Hot For PS3?

lanoire_elsa_800x600.jpg

So I bought L.A. Noire for the Xbox 360, just because that's my console of choice. Although after finding out that it comes on three discs, I think I would've rather gotten the PlayStation 3 version, since it comes on just the one Blu-ray. Not that switching is such a big pain, but if you've got both consoles, why not use the one that makes it easier on you? However, then I see this little note over on the PlayStation Blog:

We have received a very small number of customer support questions about PS3s overheating or shutting down while playing L.A. Noire. At this time, Rockstar Games and Sony can confirm that neither L.A. Noire or firmware update 3.61 are causing the PS3 hardware to overheat. We are both committed to working hard to find solutions to this and any issues that may arise. If you are experiencing any issues with L.A. Noire or your PS3 hardware, please contact technical support using any of the means provided below:

They list both PS3 and Rockstar support as well as Rockstar support on Twitter. Now, they do use the phrase "a very small number" which would seem to indicate that it's not massively widespread. I don't know anyone playing it on PS3 who has had a problem, but I just know that if I'd bought it on PS3, I'd be one of that 2% or whatever whose console would lock up trying to play the game. That's just how my luck goes! So far, the worst bug I've encountered was a car that kept smashing into a wall instead of turning to get away from me during a car chase. But I didn't mind because it made it easier to collar the bad guys!

But if you're playing L.A. Noire on PS3 and have been experiencing any trouble, try the links above and hopefully you'll be able to find the help you need. The game's too good not to be able to play it!

UPDATE: Apparently, L.A. Noire is also freezing up on the Xbox 360, although they again say it's a "very small number." Again, you can contact Rockstar support or Xbox customer support for help. I personally haven't had any problems, but of course, now that I've just said that, I'm sure I've jinxed myself!

It apparently only happens to certain PS3's because I have been playing the game since Tuesday and I haven't had a single crash or burnout yet. I even lost track of time the other day and realized I had been playing it for five hours straight! The game is pretty fantastic to say the least.

I know the 360 is your system of choice, but you should have really thought harder about grabbing it for the PS3 Wootini. One disc (what a concept!), no online multiplayer, and exclusive PS3 only content/cases! It was a no-brainer really.

I don't think it's LA Noire's fault. My 60 GB launch PS3 overheated without playing a minute of the game. Luckily I found a local repair crew who can quickly fix it.

Wootini you choosed an inferior version sorry,:) and I Think It would be nice if you update your article because the game has been reported to have lockups on 360 too, on some consoles.

It keeps freezing up on my Xbox and from what I've read I'm not the only one this is happening. I got the PS3 version today and I'm going to try it out later.

The ps3 version usually frozes with the "fat ps3" but there no indication that it frozes with an specific type of 360... so if you have both consoles and a slim ps3 get the ps3 version; you will have less chances of this happenning. Anyway I finished the game and I thought the ending was terrible.

Kid, what kind of PS3 exclusives are there? I thought all the extras depended on where you bought them, but they were available for whichever version you purchased. I didn't hear anything about one console getting extra extras. For me, the only draw for the PS3 version would've been to have it all on one disc.

Neither LA Noir version will play on my Wii. :( Okay....I know...bad joke...I'm sorry.

Wootini, The "Consul's Car Traffic Case" is a exclusive PS3 only mission that comes free with the game. It maybe available eventually for the 360, but I am guessing that you'll probably have to buy it.

Oh well. I hadn't heard about that. Otherwise I definitely would have pre-ordered the PS3 version instead of the 360 version at GameStop. Then I'd have three extras with less to buy later. Rockstar has said that all of the exclusive content will be available later on to purchase, which only makes sense, because why not make money off of it?
