Mass Effect Producer Confirms Same Sex Love Interest(s) For Both Sexes In Mass Effect 3

Well, this is interesting. Casey Hudson, Executive Producer of the Mass Effect series, has been tweeting his little heart out about the third game in the series, and let slip this little detail:
Happy to confirm #ME3 supports wider options for love interests incl. same-sex for m&f chars, reactive to how you interact w/them in-game.
Hmm! The line from Bioware has always been that a same sex relationship wouldn't fit into the established parameters they'd set up for Male-Shep, something that always seemed a little hinky to most folks, I think. That makes me wonder exactly how they're going to handle this in-game; will Shepard go on a special "camping trip" with one of the crew members and end up having a very awkward conversion with Ashley, Liara, Jack, Tali, Miranda, or Kelly? Maybe he'll be hit with some experimental Reaper weapon designed to disrupt human mating habits? Seriously though, assuming this is actually about Shepard and not some other new character they're planning on introducing, I wonder if they'll address the change at all in the plot, or if it will all boil down to the idea that sometimes the future is an exciting place.
It will likely be a while before we get concrete details. Although Hudson originally claimed Mass Effect 3 would have no new love interests, another tweet implies those plans have changed. As for me, I think I'll have to see my fem-Shep through to the end, but if this pans out I'll definitely have an incentive to replay the third game, and maybe even the series, at least one more time.
Thanks to Vorpal Bunny for retweeting this.

This is incredibly amazing and surprising news. Moreso, since they are being so candid and blunt about it, point blank, so many months ahead of the game's release.
I'll give kudos to you BioWare and ME team.
Haven't played the first two games, but they have a guaranteed sale, here!
^ @12th, do yourself a favor and play the first two! lol
I'm sure you can get the first one for really cheap by now on PC or 360, and the second one's definitely available for much less than $60, even the newer PS3 version! Very much worth it.
I'm really happy about this news... I wonder what the male same-sex love interest will be like!
I've played a male Shepard since ME1 and I've always felt my character had a strong connecting with Joker. I really hope I get to bring that friendsip to a new level.
Dangit! I've been playing a female Shepard (because I couldn't tweak Male Shep to look enough like me and because I'd heard her voice actor was better than his), so this is frustrating. I need the continuity of using the same character I created in the first one and continued into the second one. I'm not going to start over with a guy just to do this... but Mass Effect is not a series that I ever consider trading in, so maybe someday I'll go back and play the series with a guy...
I think it's great and I look forward to it. :)
And I don't see this as a change of sexuality or anything - my Sheppard has always been gay and that's why he didn't have any romance with any of the girls so far.. If a nice, hot guy comes along in the third game, he'll be very happy to try his luck.. :D
About damn time! Kaiden kept ignoring my male shepard!
As long as my Male Shepard gets to mack on Garrus finally, I'll be happy. He ain't much of a looker, but that voice is to die for...
I have every achievement in ME2 except the Paramour one and a LOT of the achievements in ME1 (play-thoughs with races missing)except the paramour one.
Because I felt if they let me pick everything else, I was determined to make sure my Shepard was gay, no alien blue-thang for me!
Also Wrex / Grunt lovin plox!
Hmm ... perhaps submissive musclebottom Jacob will be more than just subtext this time!
Great! I guess EA is listening, after all.
I am greedy, I want Kaidan AND Joker and if its more than the lame crap they pulled in part 2, then Garrus as well. I want Kaidan the most though.
I am thinking though that it may be a new character, based on Hudson's response to Greg Noe about the earlier claim that there would be no NEW love interests:
"Yes, our plans evolve over time, and are guided by your feedback. Interviews are often from earlier stages of development."
If they bring in someone new, I hope he is as hot as Kaidan.
I wont believe it till i see some awkward conversations. I cant wait to blush :)
I killed Ashley off just so i could avoid her silly advances
.....and hope you are not stuck with a stereotypical gay character, i want BEEF!
This is awesome news, but I'm curious. If there are no new relationships, and if you can only develop relationships you've had before, and since there were no possible male/male relationships in previous ME's ... how will that work? I guess we'll have to hope that the Tweeted planned changes are true, eh?
I'd love for it to be Kaidan, but since you can at most flirtatiously bromance him in ME1 and there's some ambiguity with Jacob in ME2 ... I'm wondering. But I'll stay hopeful!
Maybe they can patch ManShep+Kaidan back into the older games! Hell, they even recorded some of the romance dialogue for ME1 (but you need a modded savefile to access it)

I think they will have to add a new love interest. They have worked so hard to have everything from previous games carry over, it would be a bit ridiculous if Kaidan was suddenly gay (even if we all want it).
I also hope they are progressive enough about this to require some kind of conversation or clarity if your maleShep slept with women in the first two games and now goes after a guy.
New love interest: "But I thought you were into women?"
Shep: "I thought so, too."
New love interest: "What changed?"
Shep: "I met you."
That simple. But necessary, IMO. If Shep is just suddenly hitting on guys with no reference to previous relationships, it just won't feel like the ME experience.
Of course, what this means is that I'll have to play through with my canon femShep so I can see the Kaidan romance through to the end (I do love him!) and then replay the whole thing with a maleShep.
Hahahaha YES! Shepard (Male Shepard) is a closet freak! This works out very well, since I played Mass Effect from the beginning, I was kind of in the closet, but now I'm out, and so will Shepard!
I always thought Kaidan did his hair... a little gay. ^^
