For those who have missed the news on Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, it serves as the debut RE installment on the 3DS. Based on the "Mercenaries" mode featured in Resident Evil 4 and 5, it challenges players to defeat swarms of zombies, as well as some well-known bosses, in 30 new missions, while featuring "the biggest names from Resident Evil history, including Chris Redfield, Claire, Krauser, and Hunk," according to the Mercenaries website. As an added bonus -- something that will be positively sickening to those, like myself, who are accustomed to the "lacking" (I'm being extraordinarily charitable) PSP mulltiplayer experience -- wi-fi co-op will allow for players to join forces again the under legions across the globe. While the trailer's presentation is nothing special -- in fact, I find the whole thing to be incredibly silly, and not in a good way -- the gameplay footage does give an idea of what the game will look like on the 3DS.
Perhaps more interesting for those who are itching for a proper installment in the Resident Evil franchise, Mercenaries will include a demo for Resident Evil: Revelations, which will be a completely new chapter in the Resident Evil saga. Details are fairly scarce, but it seems that Revelations will be a departure from the action-oriented gameplay of recent Resident Evil games, instead favoring a more traditional survival horror experience. We'll be sure to keep you updated on Revelations as we learn more!
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D is set for release June 28th.
