Oh good, Playstation Home. As for the store, Sony wants to make sure all if its security upgrades are in place before bringing it back up; the current estimate is only "later this month."
But what about the presents? As part of a "Welcome Back" Appreciation Program, each Sony territory will be offering different free downloads to customers, with announcements coming "soon." Sony will also be giving users 30 days free to try Playstation Plus, or giving current Playstation Plus subscribers a 30 day extension on their subscription. Qriocity subscribers will also get a 30 day extension.
Sony briefly details their security enhancements, including additional automated software monitoring, enhanced encryption, a whole pile of extra firewalls, and moving to a newly constructed data center, a plan which had already been in the works. Lastly, after the latest system software update forces you to change your password, you'll only be able to make additional changes on the same PS3 system, or via email confirmation.
Does the first stop on the Sony Contrition Tour 2011 leave you feeling safer and satisfied? Any idea what type of free stuff you'd like to see? We probably should keep our heads out of the clouds - free inFamous 2 for everyone! - but after all this it's got to be something good. Unrelated, if you follow the link below, do you think that Patrick Seybold, Senior Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, should have used a different icon when posting this press release? The Helghast don't exactly suggest humility.
Press Release: Some PlayStation Network and Qriocity Services to be Available This Week [Playstation Blog]

I'd much rather they just gave everyone some free money in their PS Store wallet so we could get what we want, odds are the free thing will be something I either already have or don't want. More Rock Band songs would be better than anything they could give me.
I agree with Shin. I would rather have a credit put on my account. 30 free trial of PSN+ just seems like a way for them to rebound money loss during that entire month for when people potentially op to sign up since they don't wanna lose the free content that came with the Plus subscription.
You know, it doesn't matter what Sony offer, some people will just *not* be happy - just look above. I had and have no desire to pay for playstation plus, so for me this is an okay gift. Sure, money would be better, but since I intend on downloading all the premium content I can whilst I have it, seems okay to me.
You don't get to keep the free content I was told if you cancel the subscription.
@ Nick: No, you can't. The stuff you buy at reduced price is yours forever but the "free" stuff that comes with a PS+ account evaporates like your trust in Sony's security encryption as soon as you stop paying.
And I hardly think "here's some free crap we know you wouldn't pay for otherwise" is a fair compensation for a network outage of 2 weeks. That's not "not being happy", that's "having some sense of proportion".
