BioShock Infinite E3 Demo Now Available On The Youtubes (Video)
For those of you not fortunate enough to have attended E3 this year, thus missing the BioShock Infinite demo, those denizens of gaming's Ivory Tower have decided to dote upon we of the Great Unwashed with its wonder. In the video we see a nice demonstration of combat, your character's special abilities, skyline travel, and Elizabeth's use of the "tear" mechanic, which can be used offensively or defensively.
I'm intrigued as to whether the gameplay will live up to what's presented in the demo. The most striking thing for me was how ridiculously well the action fit with the flow of the story -- the word "cinematic" comes to mind. If so, I'll be extraordinarily impressed. Granted, this is a very limited preview, but the sequences seem well-crafted enough to cater to Infinite's grandiose style.
I'm not entirely sure what I think of the in-person dialogue - the original BioShock's method of storytelling, primarily through radio and dialogue, was extremely effective. However, I do find it to be a positive sign that the BioShock series doesn't look as though it's going to succumb to the complacency that, while making for a serviceable game, could cause the series to become stagnant. I'm all for taking risks, and I definitely credit Irrational Games with finding the balance between deviating from the established formula (not simply making Infinite just "BioShock in the sky") yet maintaining enough common elements to keep a sense of familiarity. Needless to say I'm mildly ecstatic at the thought of diving into Levine & Co.'s newest creation, so I'm looking very forward to writing about Infinite in the future.
