Dan Trachtenberg Presents "Portal: No Escape" (Video)
Before you ask, I didn't know who he was either. According to Trachtenberg's website, he has "directed commercials for Lexus, Nike, and Coca Cola, among others," which unsurprisingly slipped under my radar, given that my day to day life - aptly described as "proletarian bridge troll" - means that I haven't watched television since about 2003. Perhaps more helpful is the fact that Trachtenburg is one of the hosts of "The Totally Rad Show," a video podcast (or "vidcast," if you're feeling obnoxiously hip) hosted on Revision3. His latest undertaking, a five-or-so minute long production based on Portal, has been been generating quite a buzz around the internet. According to Game Informer, it was debuted as Comic-Con, and now the director has taken it upon himself to upload his creation to YouTube, where boys and girls across the globe congregate to look at amusing videos of cats, share opinions that no one asked for, and every now and again, produce something of actual worth.
For the sake of avoiding spoilers, I won't divulge much about the video's premise. Let's just say that while it's not a rehash of Portal's story, it compliments the plot quite well. Overall, short of one minor quibble on my part, it's exceptionally done, with high production values that don't try to stretch beyond their capabilities (something that tends to have disasters results). So put your chair into "free recline" mode, kick your feet up on the desk, grab a fun size Snickers, and enjoy some mini-cinematic fun!

It is a work of art.
What? No GLaDOS?
Most people awaken from stasis emaciated...yet you seemed to have packed on a few pounds.
Now I'm curious! What's your quibble?
I thought the very brief combat (her giving the guard a whack with the portal gun), was a bit iffy -- but that's a very minor complaint.
Overall, the whole video was much more than I was expecting :)
That was amazing. And I actually liked the combat a bit, it was interesting to see how the portals could be used offensively.
I so want a full length movie of this or a mini-series, and I'm not even really a portal fan (only played half of Portal 1, never even tried 2)
My only complain is: NO GLaDOS? That's a serious mistake, and I think that anyone who played the games will agree with me that GLaDOS is Portal. Production wise is very good, but I think that's a huge mistake not to include at least the light, or a small dialoge by GLaDOSS.
