Don't Forget To Register As A 3DS Ambassador

1961-Rambler-Ambassador-V-81-300x246.jpg

Remember, the price of the Nintendo 3DS is dropping to $169.99 this Friday, August 12, so I just wanted to give any of you who already have one a friendly reminder to make sure to log into the eStore at least once before 11:59 pm EST on August 11! As I mentioned in my earlier article, doing so will register you in the Nintendo 3DS Ambassador program so you will receive the free NES and Game Boy Advance games they're hoping will make up for spending the extra $80 to be an early adopter.

Just as another FYI, there's no indication upon entering the Nintendo eStore that you've been registered in the Ambassador program. There's also no E-mail confirmation, either. So don't worry when you don't feel registered. I don't, either. I just hope that on September 1, when Nintendo releases the first batch of NES Virtual Console games for free, I'm actually a 3DS Ambassador!

When you're in the Nintendo eShop on your 3DS, if you go to the left on the main screen, you can select "News." In there, there was a message saying "You are a Nintendo 3DS Ambassador!" That's as close as I've gotten to any kind of confirmation so far.

What Jeff said. It's not obvious, but at least it's something.

Ah! Thanks! I never saw that!

and it's been reduced from $349 to $249 in Australia. The age old question 'why are games/consoles so expensive in Australia?' continues :P

HonestDragon said:

@Ash

It's economics of scale, every time. Aus is a small market, and therefore startup costs and what not are defrayed by a smaller number of buyers. Its the same reason why I have to pay more for consoles than my American counterparts, even though Canadian money is worth more (for now)

Caracticus said:

@HonestDragon with all due respect, the trip from China where the devices are manufactured to Australia is a lot shorter than to the US... and the size of the market has a lot less to do with pricing than the "what the market will bear" aspect of pricing. It didn't suddenly get $80 less costly for Nintendo to manufacture and market the device, but the price dropped because the market wouldn't "bear" $250. It seems the Australian market will bear a higher price than the US market.

Well that's horribly disappointing.
I don't have a message saying I'm an Ambassador. And it's still time here in Europe.
Do you have to have a Club Nintendo account linked?
And do you actually need to buy something or is going into the eShop enough? Because I only did the latter.

Wootini said:

No, you don't have to buy anything. And according to Nintendo's support site, you don't have to have a Club Nintendo account to become an Ambassador. Click this link for more information and support, and there's a number to call if the site can't help you enough: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/3ds/en_na/3dsambassador.jsp

Ugh. I wish I had never bought this thing. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops to get games I don't even want. I've gone from being a total Nintendo fanboy to wincing when I hear their name. Fail, fail, fail.

Hey

My 3DS was purchased in Australia and the only sort-of-confirmation that I have confirming me as an eligible 3DS ambassador is a spot-pass notification message. It doesn't state that I, personally am now eligible, but instead just states that the ambassadors program is happening. Have I missed out on my chance to become ambassador, or does the notification that I received state me as being ambassador?

Cheers
