Gallery: Skyrim Character Creation

Well, I know you're all as psyched as I am to get same-sex married in Skyrim when it comes out this fall, but first you're going to have to create an attractive fellow to lure in the hunks. Even if technically, none of these characters look all that attractive!
Bethesda just released a slew of new screenshots illustrating some different looks for character creation. You'll notice that the usual suspects are included, from Redguards to Wood Elfs and everything in between. And while the folks themselves don't look particularly lovely, you can't deny that the graphics continue to look spectacular.
I know Skyrim isn't actually out until November, but it's never too early to start thinking about the character you want to play as. I mean, you're going to spend a good chunk of your free time playing as him or her, so you'd better pick someone you don't mind looking at a lot! And while I'm tempted to pick a Khajiit male just because they look so awesome, I'm probably going to go with my standby of a hunky blond Nord. (What? Chris Hemsworth is probably why I liked Thor so much!) Then again, those headshots of female Redguards look fierce! (But if they're offering same-sex relationships, I'm going to go with a dude.)

They're not attractive, but you can kinda, sorta fix that in character creation.
And if not, there'll be mods. Definitely plenty of them. If they can get the guys from Oblivion to look like this http://baraspot.org/chan/2d/src/131381961434.jpg I'm interested in seeing what they'll do for this game.
Even since Morrowind I kind of hated how Bethesda handles faces of playable and NPC characters, but I can definitely see some improvement in Skyrim's chars. Still not great but oh well.... I hated how, both in Oblivion and Fallout 3, characters looked like they had a muddy mesh happening on the fronts of their heads.

Frankly, the body on that Oblivion mod dude looks way perfect/overdone/artificial, or possibly I just see it that way as I view that type of physique the same way irl as well :P
I'm loving how good the Khajiit look in this one. I always play Khajiit (3 times through Oblivion and it's still the only race I've ever bothered with) so I'm happy they'll finally look more like cats and less like people with weird noses.
The people are still butt ugly, but at least it's 50% less butt ugly than Oblivion.
I used a body-swapper in Oblivion to give all my races a much more realistic physique (veins, muscles that look real, etc.) and armor. But armor is a skin, so it was not uncommon to change my armor and then get an indecent view of my hunky archer and realize that his religion appear to be different when he's wearing a kilt as compared to no-kilt.
Hrm... Dark Elves appear to always be mean and ugly looking now. I understand Bethesda wanting them to looking more unique compared to other races but now they look like Klingons.
Argonians looks amazing, though.
Agreed on how amazing the Argonians and Khajit look.
Probably going to make an Argonian and have a same-sex relationship with a Khajit.
The Khajit and Argonians look absolutely brilliant. Though I do wish the body shapes for the Khajit were more like the differences in big cats rather than humans (such tiny necks on the women and I'm going to bet very slender human-female proportions).
But still, great job on those. I think I like the Redguard and Nord out of the humans. And high elf for the elves. That's about it, though.
Excluding the Angorians and Khajit, they all look like they've been beaten with an ugly stick. It looks like ES is continuing the tradition of having the ugliest NPCs in all of gamedom.
Here is hoping there is one decent looking knight to bed. :)
I'm all for bethesda making same-sex marriage as an option but don't you think it's a little weird for the dragon-born having a gay relationship? Pretty sure you would be beheaded if you were gay back in medieval times.
Personally I think that Nord screenshot at the top of the article is hotter than hell! I'm a definite sucker for muscle-bears. ;P Not to mention anything even remotely touched with Viking or Celtic influence. (Irish-German here.) So I definitely plan to roll my Nord Battle-Mage come November.
Also, while it is a fair point to say that someone would be executed in the middle ages for same-sex practise, Skyrim has no religious doctrine saying that homosexuality is wrong. Now as far as social attitudes, it's difficult to say. I'm sure there are people in Tamriel who would think it wrong not to join into a relationship that propogates the survival of one's family line, or of a community in general. Vikings themselves thought being gay was cool, so long as you weren't the one being penetrated, (it was a sign of submission,) and as long as you still had children. Even if you had to force yourself to get off with a woman.
