When it comes to the balance of global power, we Swedes tend to get the shaft. Lacking the efficiency of the Germans, the boundless creativity of the Japanese, the menacing presence of the Russians (before you get offended, I am part Russian), or the "more money than actually exists" of the Chinese, we Swedes are left with our only bastion of control: Minecraft. Like the most courteous New World Order scenario, Minecraft has slowly devoured the world's free time, unleashing a simple, yet addictive gameplay experience
Despite all this, we are also considered adorable -- and rightly so. With a cuddly disposition and a heart full of sunny (if not obscured by a veil of stoicism) cheer, we keepers of Social Democracy simply want everyone to have a lovely time. Thus, in the spirit of love and general goodwill, Markus "Notch" Persson is celebrating his wedding by offering a two-for-one deal on Minecraft. The deal is for this weekend only, so prepare your credit card, strap in, and prepare to embark on a transcendent journey through the wonderful world of blocks, 8-bit nostalgia, more blocks, things that go bump in the night, and still more blocks.
On a related note, as FaePuck mentioned, the official MineCon 2011 site is now up. The first 500 people who register for the convention will be entered in a drawing for "The Ultimate Fan Experience," which includes:
- your hotel stay during MineCon (for the nights of November 17,18, and 19th)
- VIP seating to Keynotes and Classes
- A meal with Team Mojang
So check it out - particularly the former. Nothing says "I love you" to that special guy (or gal) quite like a sculpture of the Earth, particularly when it is made entirely of cubes.
