Hm. Maybe one of the reasons that Nintendo seems to have forgotten that it's also Metroid's 25th birthday is because they're too busy thinking up new ways to promote the quarter-century anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. Obviously, there's The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D and the concert series, which I've already told you about. And now there's an official 25th Anniversary Website that includes an interactive history of the series as well as a video of the orchestra performing Zelda tunes at E3 2011.
In addition, from today until September 9, DSi and DSiXL owners can create their own animations inspired by The Legend of Zelda using one of the three flipnote templates with music from the game using Flipnote Studio. That's a free download from the DSiWare store, and as I've mentioned before, it's pretty fun. You can also submit a paper entry by mail. The best Zelda-themed flipnotes will be evaluated by Nintendo developers who've worked on the series (including Miyamoto) and posted for fans to enjoy on the anniversary website. Oh, and don't forget, in September, Nintendo will be offering The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for free on the DSi, DSiXL or 3DS! Free is always good!
