Yahtzee Goes Gay For Dragon Age II

Like me, you may already love Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw for his hilarious video reviews of games where he eviscerates them (with love!). But now there's another reason for us to adore the guy, because he's written a terrific little article about how he ended up playing a gay male character in BioWare's Dragon Age II.
While many gamers create avatars that closely resemble themselves, Croshaw explains that he likes to actually role play when playing a roleplaying game. He creates a completely new character and lets their personality be defined as he plays through the game. So it was during his playthrough of Dragon Age II that he found his Hawke spending a lot of time palling around with Anders. And when that friendship started moving to the next level, Croshaw went with it.
It's fascinating to read his take on the game, as a straight man who found himself playing a gay character, and it's a testament to BioWare's skills with characterization and scripting that the relationship was still effective even being so far distanced from Croshaw's real-life attitudes. Because honestly, love is still love. Am I right? Now go read it. Link is below!
Extra Punctuation: Roleplaying Homosexual in Dragon Age 2 [The Escapist]

I got tired of his schtick a suuuper long time ago. He tears apart good games for no reason, and isn't even funny about it most the time. It was great when he was tearing apart crap games, but spending 5 minutes nit-picking actually good games just.. it's gross.
As for this. I dunno. I play straight characters all the time, so I don't really get why it's so astounding that somebody is willing to play a gay guy, other than the fact that it just means he's mature enough not to be all "ew, grosss, penises!" Congratulations, you're not an idiot, I guess?
"Congratulations, you're not an idiot, I guess?"
Its more then can be said about a lot of others out there
This is old old old news ! Like many months. His original video is a year old I think ?
I enjoy his game breakdowns. I like the he nit picks and points out those really annoying things that even good games have too.
I think it is pretty suprising that straight male gamers might explore homosexual romance options. It's a bigger thing then some would think.
I haven't tired of him yet. I'd like to think it's only partially because CHARMING ACCENT.
Really, his reviews are a pretty good litmus for me personally in finding out if a game's story is even half-decent or pushes character development just a little further in even one way.
Old news is old, but still good to reread again. And with regards to straight guys roleplaying gay characters, I think it's awesome, and Yahtzee has the reputation to admit it AND say why it's totally fine to have in a game without concern of how it will affect his image. Good for him, I say.
