Happy Birthday... Nevermind

972.jpg

Wow. In case I didn't feel old enough already, Nirvana's Nevermind is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. And to celebrate, Harmonix is adding four new songs from the band into the Rock Band Music Store, and adding Pro Guitar/Bass upgrades to 10 pre-existing Nirvana tracks!

The "Celebrating Nirvana Pack" will cost you $6.99, or for $2 each, you could buy the tracks individually. And they are: "Heart-Shaped Box," "Rape Me," "All Apologies," and "You Know You're Right."

Of the new tracks, "Heart-Shaped Box" has the optional $.99 Pro Guitar/Bass upgrade available, but they're also adding that option now to the following: "Smells Like Teen Spirit," "Breed," "Polly," "Territorial Pissings," "Lounge Act," "Stay Away," "On a Plain," "Something in the Way," "Lithium (Live)," and "Come As You Are (Live)."

Of course, if you're not a Nirvana fan, you're a bit out of luck this week. Which is why I'm actually excited that Harmonix is releasing some DLC for Dance Central that's a little more up my alley. While I'm not familiar at all with Rubee's "Tempted to Touch," I love "The Way I Are" from Timbaland, and I don't think I can resist the pure cheese of "Don't Cha" by The Pussycat Dolls. (Mostly because I can't wait to see what the choreography is!)

*sigh* Good lord, it is eerie to think it has been that long. I missed the heyday of Nirvana (being 11 when Kurt Cobain died) but i became a massive fan of theirs when i discovered music -- as much as i'm almost ashamed to admit it, i could probably recite the lyrics to a given Nirvana song on command. Dave Grohl's drumming was incredibly influential on my own -- i hold him greatly responsible for all the broken sticks, drum heads, and injuries from "flinging myself around the drum kit like a crazed Spartan warrior" -- and despite the fact that i don't play much in the way of grunge anymore, i still have a good number of happy memories from those days.

Apparently Jon Stewart is doing a "Survivors of Nirvana" interview with Dave Grohl and Krist Novaselic on Sirius on Sept 24th... Not sure exactly when (or on what channel), but i'm sure it will be rather interesting. In the meantime, i'm off to pester my Rock Band-enthusiast friends.

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
