A new trailer has emerged for NBA Jam: On Fire Edition, featuring action, silly catchphrases, and... umm, what?
In the spirit of NBA Jam's slightly surreal sense of humor - keep in mind that this was the series that made Bill Clinton a secret character - the creators have included the little, psychopathic fur-thing that could: the Honey Badger. While NBA Jam may have a special place in my heart, earning the distinction of bring the only sports game I've enjoyed since Blades of Steel on the NES, our wild, mammalian friend couldn't care less, for reasons that are obvious to we learned types - i.e. graduates from the University of Internet.
For those who don't know, the presence of Honey Badgers, as well as the rather, shall we say, "unusual" narration, find its genesis in a character named "Randall." The NSFW video on which it was based can be found here; in fact, there is entire series of spoof, Discovery Channel-style nature segments, all delivered by a man who, to put it delicately, makes Big Gay Al sound like a drill sergeant. They're passingly funny, assuming you aren't offended by a character that is to the gay community what Letitia from Human Revolution is to the black community. So we pay tribute not only to the series that made basketball seem appealing - for those of us in the "sports-averse" camp - but to the fuzzy scourge of the African plains, and a creature that, given its nature, could only be described as Andrew Ryan's ideal pet: the Honey Badger.
