Nintendo Teases Some Skyward Sword Details

As we all know, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is coming out on November 20. And while Nintendo has already revealed that the Wii title will actually be a prequel, laying the foundation for the rest of the series, today they teased us with a few more plot tidbits, which I will relay for you here!

  • Introduction: The new game's storyline begins in Skyloft, an island town suspended high in the sky, on the day before young Link™ is to compete in a major bird-flying competition. The winner of the contest will earn the honor of taking part in a special ceremony with Zelda™.
  • Link and Zelda: Friends since childhood, Link and Zelda have always shared a special bond. Events in the new game will add even more depth to their relationship.
  • Groose: Link's nemesis at school, Groose, plays a significant role in the early moments of the new game. This bully of a character not only threatens Link's chances to win the bird-flying competition, but he also reveals a jealous streak toward Link and Zelda's special bond.
  • Fi: Early on in Link's new adventure, he encounters Fi, the spirit of the powerful Goddess Sword. Fi's guidance proves to be crucial as Link goes forth on a challenging quest that will ultimately result in the creation of the Master Sword.
  • Zelda's father: Gaepora, Zelda's father, is the headmaster of Link's school. As such, he has knowledge of the history and legends of Skyloft.

I like that we're going to actually see the forging of the Master Sword. That's pretty cool. But the thing I don't quite get is how this will tie into the other games, since they're all kind of just variations on a theme. Unless Skyward Sword will set up some kind of multiple reality storyline where there must always be a hero named Link in a green outfit who saves the day from an evil while rescuing a princess named Zelda. It's just the details that vary. Nintendo is promising more storyline details and features will be revealed before the launch, but we're probably going to have to wait until November 20 to play it and find out everything!

Something tells me you haven't read about the timeline theories regarding the Zelda series. Basically, a lot of fans believe that the history of Zelda features the continued rebirth of Link and Zelda throughout time, and that the games are released out of chronological order, like a Tarantino movie. There are plenty of different theories as to what order each game places in the timeline, but that's how a lot of people see it. I want to say Nintendo has said they have their own timeline, meaning that the whole rebirth thing would be canonical, but that might just be something a fan made up.

I wasn't aware they had stated that Skyward Sword would be a prequel though. I guess that makes it obvous where this game goes in the timeline! I honestly wasn't too interested in this one, since I've never been a fan of the Wii and I thought Twilight Princess was utterly bland and unoriginal, but the thought that this game might finally shed some light on all of this is probably too much to pass up.

Gaepora...? Wasn't that own in OoT called Gaebora something or the like...? Can't remember, I've never been good at Zelda games.

@xbogey: "I want to say Nintendo has said they have their own timeline" I think it has been stated they do have their timeline...? But it's never been released, since they'd rather see the fans use their imagination to create their own view of the series.
...I think. I don't have any links to back this up, I just feel like I read about that somewhere.

I'm a little sorry to say I'm not all that excited about this game... Like I said, I'm not very good at Zeldas; they're just not the kind of games I like. And I'm not a fan of this Zelda's design...

wow, I was really hoping that when Nintendo said they'd pull out all the stops to make this the best zelda ever, they meant it. Zelda stories are all so poor they really need to stop making up these (most likely annoying and way too chatty characters and stories) and just have a fun adventure with dungeons, monsters, treasures and plenty of action(meaning no super long intro/tutorial village).
seeing the info in this article, I guess I really do need to give up on zelda cause it looks like I'm no longer the kind of person they want money from. :(

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
