Preview The New Xbox Dashboard

1_home_30rock_0531.jpg

At E3, Microsoft announced a new Xbox LIVE dashboard that will supposedly be an improvement over the current one, but we'll have to wait until that update finally happens to see if it's true. Or do we? If you are willing to fill out a rather brief survey, you can register to participate in a preview program to test out the new system.

I'm hoping for better Kinect integration, and I am really looking forward to having better Facebook integration. I don't care about posting to Facebook or browsing Facebook on my Xbox. I want my Achievements on there, and right now, Raptr is doing that thing again where it doesn't want to update and post anything. Sony can do it with PS3 Trophies, so I don't know why it's taken Microsoft so long to get their act in gear.

Anyway, if you'd like to apply to test out the new dashboard ahead of the actual release, just click here and fill out the survey. It's actually easier to apply than in past updates. They're not asking you to fill in your console ID numbers at this stage... presumably once you're selected you will, but that's one less headache to worry about at this point in the game!

It certainly looks nice, but I'm hoping it's less ad-tastic than the current dashboard.
Does anyone else miss just the original 360 dashboard, with the blades? I spend a lot of my time looking for something on the Xbox button menu because it's way easier to navigate...

I just hope that there will be less lag while navigating the dashboard menu, especially while typing messages!

@Shin Gallon: With BING integrated in, you should be able to search for anything on your console and market easily.

I shouldn't have to type in search parameters to find something on my console, though. I'm just worried because ever since the first Dashboard overhaul, the system has become more and more confusingly laid out and harder to use.
I also wish they'd let you set button configs for the dashboard itself, I hate having Y be the "play the game" quicklaunch button. That should be A, Y should bring up the game's info. It'd be a hell of a lot more intuitive that way.
Granted all of these could be problems stemming from the fact that out of everything I play games on the 360 is the one I use the least, so...

What I am most curious about with regards to the new dashboard layout is how it will affect themes. The previous overhaul completely destroyed the appearance of the old themes because most of the screen was covered in advertisements. Now with this new layout can we actually see the themes we choose? And what about the premium themes that were designed specifically around the previous layout?

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
