Video: Wootini's Video Podcast #38

Well, Deus Ex took a backseat this week as I wasn't feeling well enough to play any games that required thinking and/or coordination. But it's not as though I didn't play anything this week. Nope, I've dusted off the ol' PSP and popped in a copy of Persona 3 Portable to see if the merging of high school dating sim and dungeon crawling RPG is as good as everyone says it is...

Hey Wootini,

Don't know if you've figured this out yet, but in the Velvet Room there is a "persona compendium" that lets you basically save the current state of your Personas. If you get rid of a Persona (for example, by fusing it) you can buy a new copy of your saved Persona. There's one record in the compendium for each Persona in the game, so you can play around as much as you want as long as you have the money.

The only thing you have to be careful about is not accidentally overwriting an awesome saved Persona with a crappier version. Usually the main way this happens is if you get a copy of a Persona you already have from the card shuffle game after battle, and then "save all" when you get back to the Velvet Room.

Anyway... the dungeon can get a bit grindy, but honestly... if you're not worried about fulfilling all of Elizabeth's requests and are just trying to make it to the top of the tower, it's not too bad. They switch up the tricks the enemies have reasonably often, and even the "generic" boss fights in the dungeon are almost always interesting/tough.

The first Persona did kind of suck, so I don't blame you! Personae 2 and 4 are great refinements of 1 and 3 respectively and with more interesting, endearing characters as well. If you liked 3 you will LOVE 4!

While playing Persona 3, make sure to remember that certain quests from the Velvet Room have a time limit! Whether that be collection specific rare item drops or rescuing people in the tower, do not dawdle.

I am super stoked that you are giving Persona 3 Portable a chance! This RPG has one of the best continuities out of anything to come out of Japan in a long time. ( Although It does get a little silly in the epilogue chapter included with Persona 3 FES for the PS2.

Dont' be afraid of messing anything up.! Part of the fun is experimenting with different persona! i wish we could team up AD HOC now! I hear Persona "Golden' (persona 4 for the Vita) will have a functionality similar to Demon's Souls that will allow us to rescue one another from a dungeon! Awesome!

And yes! Akihiko is my choice as well but I'd slip Junpie a little sugar (hes prolly better in bed anyways) ;-)

And girls who like girls who like rumble packs!
