Okay, that's a bit of editorializing on my part in the headline, but seriously. The official trailer for an upcoming installment in one of the most critically-acclaimed, beloved by fans, and financially successful video game franchises in history comes out and you'd expect it to make a bigger splash in the media. It's hard not to suspect that the hype machine surrounding Skyward Sword, Skyrim, and MW3 hasn't distracted us gaming news types. And by "us gaming news types," I really mean "me."
Anyway, given how far away the game probably is, the trailer is predictably heavy on atmosphere and short on concrete details. We meet the protagonist (who, interestingly, looks middle-aged and says he has kids) and are shown the clearly California-inspired setting rendered in loving detail. Rockstar is being coy about the release date - currently saying no more than that it will be out before the end of the April 2012 - March 2013 fiscal year. In layman's terms this means "it's probably coming out sometime next year." Otherwise, there are lots of rumours floating around about the game (old protagonists coming back, gargantuan maps, world peace in our time), including whether or not the game will be released on the Wii U, or the next Xbox or PS4. But with Rockstar keeping coy at this point, that all remains indulgent speculation. It has been more-or-less confirmed, however, that GTA V's main protagonist is modeled after and voiced by actor Ned Luke.
We'll have more for you as it develops.
